  1. When my Pearl had spikes in temp that came and went, and her blood values were normal, we did an ultrasound. She had fibrosarcoma of the spleen and liver. She was 12 at the time. I hope it's nothing, but an ultrasound may be able to help. The low lymphocytes is indicative of no infection and not cancer. Leukemia has an increase in odd looking lymphocytes depending on which leukemia it is. (I'm a med tech and used to look at blood smears for a living)
  2. At one point in time OSU with Dr. Couto on board had a Greyhound Health and Wellness program that helped in situations like this. Dr. Couto has since left, so I'm not sure where to go exactly for the help. (free chemo, you just pay for your vet to administer it). Dr. Couto will be at GIG next weekend talking about something new and exciting. And I believe it's in regards to a new Greyhound Health and Wellness program. try contacting him. (better yet, come to Gettysburg next weekend!!)
  3. Dee, it's very obvious how much you love Lady. And your haikus are a beautiful tribute to a beautiful girl.
  4. {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{Susan}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} we will never forget your wonderful boy Alan. he was one in a million.
  5. Cathy, I'm so sorry you and she wouldn't be able to celebrate her 13th BD together. That sucks. She sounds like she was an absolute gem. Godspeed Jackie.
  6. As a_daer said.....2-3 weeks seems to be the magic point. My Diamond was very anxious the first two weeks, and I too didn't know if it was pain or pain meds. But once we were off all pain meds she bounced back fairly quickly. She did not however get back her full strength to be able to do the walks we used to do. But........she was 12 when we did the amp. She actually did very well on 3 legs for an old lady, even chasing deer. She just couldn't go the distance. But she was very happy for 6 mos before OS raised it's ugly head again and struck at back leg. (dammit)
  7. Cathy, I'm so sorry.
  8. Brad it just makes my heart swell when I read such good updates. Nell, YOU GO GIRL!

Oh Ducky, I'm so sorry. She truly was a very special girl, and she knew it. Because you chose her. I've lost 6 in 2 yrs.........I can feel your pain.
  10. What a beautiful shot of your girl. That is how she is now.....
  11. Do you have stairs? It might be easier to have a ramp for Jaynie if you do. The first day home from OSU with Diamond she tried to go down the stairs by herself. She figured she couldn't do them so she jumped! I thought she broke her other front leg. But someone was looking out for her and me. That's when I forced her to use her ramp. I think that fall scared her and she decided the ramp was quite nice. And do be careful, Jaynie may try to do things she's not ready for. You will have to slow her down.
  12. I'm so sorry. He looks a lot like my Tanzi. A very handsome boy.
  13. Rickiesmom, I had a front end amp done on a 12 yr old. It was a rough 2 weeks post op, which seems to be the magic number, but once she was past that, she had a terrific 6 months. OS then hit a back leg. So even though we did do the chemo it didn't help in the end. We just had a great painfree extra 6 months.
  14. {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{Connie}}}}}}}}}}}} When Pearl had cancer she had a stroke. Dr Couto told me later that cancers tend to throw clots. She had fibro of the spleen not OS, so I dont know if OS also throws clots. I'm so so very sorry that you were robbed of the last few days/weeks with Carl.

  16. Heather, I'm so sorry you have two pups with this horrid disease. I know you said you're 100% in favor of amp while your DH is not. I did a front leg amp on a 12 yr. old. Best decision I ever made. While OS did end up attacking another leg 6 mos later, my Diamond was a very happy active girl for those 6 months. Good luck in whatever comes from the biopsy and decision.
  17. Hey why move when the sun is shining on her beautiful face.
  18. He was quite handsome. And 10 yrs doesn't change how you miss them. I still miss my first two and they've been gone 15 and 13 yrs.
  19. My heart aches with you. I had a special one that left years ago. And they take most of your heart with them.
  20. OMG Steve!! My heart skipped a beat when I saw her name. I had to read it twice. I didn't even know she was sick. My heart just breaks for you. Katie and Sadie so close together. Heartwrenching.
