  1. Beautifully written. So much of her personality showed through the words. I can see how loved he was.
  2. Diana, he was such a handsome boy. Very regal. I'm so so very sorry he's gone. He was still young.
  3. Oh Beryl!! I'm so very sorry. He was Emma's half brother. (same famous Dad)
  4. I just cringed when I read about her fall. I hope the harnesses help.
  5. You can also hide small treats thruout the house. (remember where they are in case he can't find them. You don't want to forget and leave them there). Teach the "find it" command (it's from nose work classes). Put maybe one treat in a room go there with him and have him look for it. Have one or two in different rooms. Eventually, send him to 'find it' without you having to help him. it's an expansion of the paper box game.
  6. Happy birthday. I hope it turns out to be very special for you. Three steps should be easy for tripods. My girl decided to jump 6. That's when she thought it was a good idea to use the ramp I made for her after all. Three is so young. I hope that they got it all and she has many many many good years with you. We have Twiggy on GT here who has been a tripod due to cancer for YEARS. She's a wonderful, energetic little girl. Her Mom can't keep up with her.
  7. when weather is too yucky to let my girls run around outside, a simple car ride will suffice most of the time. Hopefully he won't get too stir crazy on just car rides.
  8. Opal was just diagnosed on Tuesday from a cardiologist. (she's 10) We had a regular checkup end of May and there was no murmur. She had to go to the ER Labor Day for facial lacerations and they told me she had a 3/6 grade murmur. That was a bit sudden so I took her back to her regular vet who said it was significant now. That ruled out a difference between doctors. So I took her to a cardiologist and she has chronic mitral valve disease. Right now we aren't doing anything but monitoring her sleeping respiratory rate. My Pearl was diagnosed when she was 5 and given 2-3 yrs prognosis. She was put on meds and lived until she was 12 and died of cancer.
  9. Wonderful news!!! I too drove from NJ to Columbus OH - Twice for my girls. One had OS the other splenic cancer. I think Dr Couto is a godsend.
  10. Panacur doesn't take care of tapes.....which is most probably what your dogs will get.
  11. I've lost more to cancer of the spleen than osteo. I hope it really is a clot and not cancer.
  12. glad he's home. Another food that easy on the mouth and tummy are scrambled eggs. That's a funny visual of him pulling the nurse.
  13. Oh doesn't she just look so sad!!! Two years ago my Opal blew a tendon in her hock. It was not repairable, so they had to fuse her joint. The recovery was hard because it was summer and she loves her pool. I had to bring her to daycare for the 6 weeks she had on her splint because I work during the day and have a dog door. She's all healed now and with the exception of a slightly odd gait is fine. Good luck with your surgery.
  14. Get either elasticon or medical papertape (both at either vets office or drug store). You can be liberal with paper tape it doesn't stick as strongly as other tapes. It won't pull the hair off.So you can tape a sock on without cutting circulation. If you use elasticon only put about 1/2 inch of the tape on the fur. You'll have to work at getting it off, but it will keep the sock on.
  15. My heart sank when I saw Aquitaine's name here. She was very very special.
  16. My poor Opal has gotten several this past summer to the point that I can't take her for walks. Even though only 50 lbs, I can't carry her for long. And her spasms are that bad that she can't walk. She had one yesterday in the back yard. I was able to massage that one out.
  17. Also........come to greytalk just to talk. We're all here and most have gone thru this. We've got great shoulders to cry on. It's a big hurdle but so worth it as you see them running around pain free on three legs as if it was always that way when they're past this.
  18. Be prepared for them to think they can still do things they should really take time to re-learn. My Diamond decided to go outside without me and jumped 6 steps onto the cement patio. She had a ramp but didn't want to use it. I thought she had broken her only remaining front leg. But we escaped a tragedy. She decided she liked the ramp after that. But many times I had to go running after her because I felt she wasn't ready for what she wanted to do. The first two weeks are the hardest. They are restless, uncomfortable and a bit lost. A lot of it is more pain meds that actual pain. Once you make it past the 2 week mark they suddenly seem to perk right up and get on with their lives. And this is when they take off forgetting they are minus a limb.
  19. I'm so so very sorry. I thought he was improving.
