  1. Without anything scientific to back this up, just my eye from watching who knows how many thousands of races I would say no to the bigger dogs having a tougher time breaking. One of the great dogs breaking and rushing the turn on top was the 83 pound Flying Stanley. In general a greyhound fits its body size. So you can't put 83 pounds on a frame that should be 75. Well, you can, but the dog won't be a good racer. LOL The trouble a Flying Stanley would have and did have was negotiating the sharp turns at Palm Beach. He was better suited for a track with more sweeping turns. Plus, getting out of the box, providing you have the fast twitch muscle fiber to do so, is about timing the opening of the lid. Some dogs get the timing very early on, some learn it later and to some it seems like they never get it. Dogs rock in the box so you want to be going forward as the lid opens. I don't know the exact height for a starting box, but I would guess it is 40 inches or maybe just a little more.
  2. Flying Big Giant ran 92 races between Tri-State, Derby Lane, Naples and his last race was at Sanford Orlando. He was a dog that had no early speed whatsoever. we call it walking out of the box. Most races he was 6th, 7th or 8th out of the box and he wasn't a dog with a great rush to the turn getting to the turn 4th, 5th or 6th many times. What he could do was close and he was a very good closer. He did most of his running from when they headed down the backstretch to the finish line. He could come from 5th at the turn and win and as long as he cleared the turn without getting in trouble he was in the money many times. Of his 92 races he was in the money a very nice 54 times and was 1st 14 of those times and 2nd 17 times. He ran and won in top grade at both TS and Naples. Dick
  3. AMF Won't Forget ran 39 races all at Sanford Orlando. She didn't have much box speed or rush to the turn. She could close just a little at times, but as you can probably tell she wasn't a good racer. if she was 5th to the turn she might be 3rd or 4th, but that was about it. She really needed to be on top at the turn to have a chance to win, but she didn't have that kind of speed. She had no wins and 4 seconds so the best place for her was on your couch where I'm sure she is a great pet. The thing with racers like this is they aren't real slow as the difference from 1st to last in most races is less than a second and in some races only a half a second.
  4. WW Char Fontane ran 96 races between Jacksonville and Southland. She was a dog that needed to be near the leaders at the turn to have a chance to win. Being in the lead wasn't something she had to be as she could close a little and go from 2nd or 3rd and win the race. At Jax she was a very good racer and won the Juvenile Stakes race there. At SL she was a little over her head as SL is the best track in the country and she was more a C/D dog at SL. She was in the money a nice 50% of the time and had 18 wins. Spry Fireball ran 64 races between Pensacola and Sanford Orlando. He was a dog that has decent speed out of the box and as long as he was in decent position at the turn, 3rd4th or better, he could close to win. If he made the turn on top the race was usually over as he was tough to catch. He was in the money 31 of his 64 starts with 11 wins. Dick
  5. I can tell you she had a 6th race that shows on TrackInfo that was actually her first race and she finished 6th. If the removed toe is a middle toe that is probably why she was retired. If the toe is not a a middle toe dogs race without missing beat and there was probably another reason why she was retired. She didn't race that well in her six races so maybe the broken toe and the fact she wasn't doing well racing could also have been a factor. I see today, the 29th, is her birthday so Happy Birthday If want to see her race here is TrackInfo's website. http://www.trackinfo.com/dog-search.jsp?breed=g Type her name in the search box and the first bold number is the box she is in. The 3rd eace down out of the 5 box is her best race where she finishes 3rd. Dick
  6. Fly Hilary Duff ran 81 races between Ebro, Sarasota, Palm Beach, Naples, Flagler and Southland. That is a lot of tracks but Ebro, Sarasota, Naples and Flagler are seasonal tracks. Fly Hilary Duff at the lower end tracks, Ebro and Sarasota, could get away with not breaking well and getting to the turn4th or 5th and still be in contention for the win. At the other tracks she had to be 1st or 2nd to the turn to have a chance to win. She wasn't a big quitter in the stretch so if she was 3rd or 4th or even 5th to the turn she could close a little and be in the money. She was a C/D dog, but ean at some of the better tracks in the country.
  7. Kaias Redd Foxx was all about speed to the turn.. He had to be on top to have a chance to win as he would sometimes give it up in the stretch. But, speed he had and plenty of it. He ran 131 races all at Derby Lane and his record was 23-22-24-13 for an impressive 82 times in the money out of his 131 starts. He was 1st to the turn in 51 of those starts and 2nd to the turn another 31 times. He was an A/B dog and who knows what his record might have been if he didn't run at the same time the great All-American Husker Magic.
  8. Here is an explanation of the terms. http://www.raceforadoption.com/index.cfm?Content=91 Bumping or colliding is usually because of dogs that want the rail and others that want the outside being in the wrong position at the turn. Sometimes, but not often a dog will be on the wrong lead entering the turn and he will not be able to go around the turn, You will see the comment 'flew 1st tn." I learned years ago to ignore what the chartwriter said because sometimes what I saw and what he saw were two different things. Most gamblers pay no attention to the chartwriter. LOL
  9. The comments are more about what happened in the race as opposed to how he interacted with the other dogs. Racers during the race should not be interacting with other dogs. They should be focused on the lure. If a racer turns his head or in any way wants to play he will get a comment of interfered or bore in or bore out. That is bad and the dog will be taken off the track and either schooled or moved to another track. Some tracks throw you out right away and others give you another chance. Some tracks allow blinkers to try and keep the dogs focus on the lure, however this doesn't always work. While we call them fighters if they interfere in most cases they are trying to play and not fight. Dick
  10. Sorry, I don't know if there are charts for the Macau dogs and if there are I wouldn't know where to look. If you have a link I will take a look. Dick
  11. GS Jerry Lee ran 156 races between Southland, our best track, and Jacksonville. At SL he was a little over his head and after 28 races he was moved to Jax. He was a dog that had to be towards the front at the turn to have a chance to win or be in the money. He could close a little so being on top wasn't something he had to be. His best distance was the longer 660 yard course. He had a record of 156-19-16-16-13 and of those 19 wins 16 of them were on the 660 yard course. He won a few B races so he ran in A, but never won an A race. He was a nice B/C dog. If you've looked at his G-D page you've probably figured out the GS is for Gary and Sharon Willis. Dick
  12. I like to bring this thread to the top every few months since there are always new members that don't know this can be done or old members that forgot about it. Just a reminder that I, and a few others on G-D, can edit your pups G-D page. There is now a field for adopted owner and pet name. There is also a bereavement section where we can add the date of death and a couple of sentences if you wish. Plus, up to three pictures can be posted on the G-D forum and if you want pictures posted just add them to this thread. G-D added a watermark to the pictures because pictures were being taken from G-D without the owners or G-D's permission. You still own your pictures, but G-D will go after people that steal pictures from their site. Post whatever information you want added to this thread and I or someone will add it.
  13. LOL I bet if you got a lure pole she would run.
  14. This is really funny because DLT Poison Ivy ran 94 times all at Gulf. She was all about speed. LOL She would have to get out of the box and rush the turn on top to have a chance to win and she got to the turn on top more often than not. She had tremendous speed to the turn getting there on top a very impressive 67 out of her 94 races. That speed usually comes at a price as she would tired in the stretch and get caught. However, she wasn't a dog that totally gave it up in the stretch and had 9 wins and was in the money 60 times in total. She did make it to A, but was really a B/C dog. Dick
  15. If you are on FB you can go here https://www.facebook.com/groups/470273329733654/?ref=direct scroll down and you will see a post be Jenn Boswell. She runs or helps run the adoption kennel at B'ham and she might be able to help you get in touch with a person that can help you. Dick
  16. Eastnor Rebel ran 57 races all at Derby Lane except for 6 races he ran at Gulf's short meet. He was a dog that needed to be in the top three to the turn to have a chance to win. He could close a little and even if he didn't close he could hold his top three position all the way around. He seemed to like the Gulf course winning two of his six races he ran there. The problem is Gulf only runs about a 40 day meet so he came back to DL. He had 8 wins and was in the money 22 times in his 57 races so he wasn't in the top three to the turn more than he was.
  17. Locokatrina ran 71 split between Jax and PB. She started at Jax and had early speed, but would quit in the stretch. her first 15 or 20 races she would make the top at the turn only occasionally. It wasn't that she didn't have the early speed it was getting her timing to break correct. Once she got her timing down she was often on top at the turn and would usually give it up in the stretch. Jax is a deeper track and more demanding to run on and the decision was made to move her to PB. PB is 5 yards shorter and a little more harder surface which favors early speed dogs. After a few 545 yd races she was moved to the super spring 301 yd course. The problem with running super sprints is every dog in the super sprint had early speed, that is why the dogs are in the super sprint. Now instead of having to outrun a couple of early speed dogs to the turn in the 545 yd races you have to outrun 7 dogs to the turn. You never know till you try them in SS how they will do. She didn't do much better in the SS than she did in the regular sprint course. She won 3 super sprint races and 2-550's at Jax. She was a dog that really needed a 500 yard race, but we don't run that distance in the U.S.
  18. Rules today are made to stop the 1/2 of 1 percent bad people from doing what the other 99.5 percent would never think of doing. I'm sorry for your loss and when you are ready either post here or send me a PM with what you want put on your pups G-D page.
  19. I can enter anything you want. When anyone could enter information you have no idea how much time was spent trying to correct either misinformation or anti-racing stuff. G-D put in a comment section for bereavement so a few sentences can be added by a G-D team member for the adopted owner, they put in a field for pet name and adopted owners name and three pictures can be added. It only takes me a few minutes to enter whatever information you want added and I'm happy to do it. People changed the owner of the iconic sire Kiowa Sweet Trey's dam, they changed the land of standing for Djays Octane and so much more. We still find things that were changed that never should have been. Dick
  20. I was wondering why the dogs were in the tree till I realized those are suppose to be squirrels. LOL But, the cartoon is pretty good.
  21. Hi Robin, Good to see you back. Dick
  22. Done and you are more than welcome
  23. Patty, Done and sorry for your loss. http://www.greyhound-data.com/db.php?i=1571470&time=1551886476 As you know G-D allows up to three pictures and if you want me to add two more, now or in the future, just post the pictures here. Dick
  24. Anyone that has been on GT for a while knows Dennis and he might be the most brilliant mind when it comes to greyhounds. Dennis does have a FB page. https://www.facebook.com/dennis.mckeon.33/posts/10155764262681829
