  1. Our Toby wears a Whistle 2 GPS on his tag collar and we absolutely love it. He’s the shyest grey we’ve ever had and will never go to another person when he’s outside so it brings me a huge amount of peace of mind. I love the app that we use with it and it allows me to see exactly where he is at all times which was great when we were using a dog walker. I can’t imagine not having a GPS going forward. I’ve been on too many lost hound searches and can imagine all of the heartache this may have prevented during those times. If we were to get a new one, I would opt for the Whistle Go Explore that has a longer battery life and a light. Our battery lasts a long time but it begins to decrease if we’re running the app continuously while tracking him on a walk. https://shop.whistle.com
  2. I'm so very sorry. Whether it's 6 months or 6 years, it hurts just as much.
  3. I'm just so incredibly sorry. More has the sweetest face and cutest foldy ears. Love all of the pics you're both posting here. He was such a lucky boy to be so loved.
  4. I'm so very, very sorry that you lost Trooper. I can't even fathom how heart broken and upset you must be. But as others have already said, please don't blame yourself. You did a very good thing by fostering another dog and none of this is anybody's fault. Please don't go on second guessing yourself and letting this be the memory you carry for Trooper. Your relationship with him deserves much happier memories than the last one. Hoping that happy memories will help you through your grief.
  5. This is exactly what could go wrong. I'm horrified that you went through this, Beth. Sadly, I've read all too often on GT that dogs who come running up to GTer's greyhounds are automatically seen as a threat. People on other threads have actually been proud to say that they have or would not hesitate to kick even a small dog in the head if they run up to their greyhound. This is normal dog behavior. Is it sometimes scary? Absolutely! There are a lot of off leash dogs in our neighborhood and not having a yard in the city requires us to leash walk the dogs several times daily. I've had dogs come charging at Bixby from across the street and I was lucky that it turned out well although they were barking their heads off. We've witnessed Lima Bean being attacked by two pit bulls (who live upstairs) on my back patio. I totally understand the concern now more than ever. But if Bixby ever got loose and someone harmed him because he ran up to them and their dog, I would be devastated. It's sometimes very difficult to gauge another dog's intentions until the last moment. I understand that folks don't want to take that risk but there simply has to be a better answer than seeing every off leash dog as a moving target for guns, knives and tasers.
  6. Omg, Barbara! I am so incredibly sorry. This is every greyhound owner's nightmare and I'm just so sorry that you are living it. Sending lots of hugs and love your way.
  7. I'm so very sorry that your heart is hurting and that you didn't have more time together with Buffy. You have such a huge heart, Diane, and Buffy was so lucky to have you love her.
  8. So glad that you were able to resolve the mystery and I hope the wound is healing nicely. I also wanted to add that I've noticed on this forum that many dogs seem to sleep better through the night if they have a bedtime snack, especially if meals are very far apart. Bixby usually eats breakfast around 8 am and dinner between 5-6 pm so I give him a cookie around 10 pm and he sleeps soundly through the night.
  9. I'm so very sorry that you had to say goodbye to Grace and the shock of it just adds to your grief, I'm sure. She was so incredibly adorable and those ears are beyond cute! Hoping your happy memories are bringing you some comfort.
  10. I'm so very, very sorry for your loss. I imagine that your entire household must feel so out of sync.
  11. If they have accidents in their beds, you can buy a twin-sized, water-proof, zippered mattress cover, too. Put the dog bed into it and then put the dog cover over it. This way you'll only have to wash the dog bed cover if they have an accident.
  12. Glad to hear that Wylie is doing much better! Rally bathed both Lima Bean and Bixby last weekend but I'll have to look into the oatmeal bath or Malaseb shampoo. I gave Bixby several doses of Benadryl over the past few days and it really seemed to help. He was biting himself raw and that seems to have stopped. Thanks for the advice, Jen and Mary!
  13. Jen, what did you end up doing for Wylie? Bixby has begun itching all over now, too. I'm so hesitant to use Benadryl but will start today since he's chewing himself raw in one spot.
  14. Words just can't express how incredibly sorry I am for both of your losses. My heart just aches for you and I'm so, so sorry.
  15. Forgive me if I missed it, but have you tried adding canned pumpkin? I feed Bixby Kirkland's lamb and rice (soaked in warm water) and add canned pumpkin and plain yogurt and he's doing great on it. The other thing I'd suggest is not mixing the chicken with the lamb so you can sort out which one had made him worse. Chase may have a poultry allergy.
  16. If you work full time & have any amount of commute you will easily be gone from home 10 hours on a work day. The right person matched with the right dog could make that work while keeping the dog happy, healthy, & comfortable. It all depends on the dog, owner & the particular circumstances. My impression is that the OP is concerned she does not have the right match. It is also possible she underestimated just how hectic things would be. I certainly wouldn't judge her poorly when she is trying to keep the dog's best interest at heart. The OP clearly cares about the dog's feelings. I would worry more about someone who doesn't bother to keep the dog's emotional health in mind. Well said!

    Greta

I'm so very sorry that you had to say goodbye to beautiful Greta. I've lost two kitties this year and it's so difficult. We miss seeing you and Josie at the Douglas dog park in Noe. Hope you can join us soon so Josie can play with Lima Bean again and meet my new boy, Bixby.
  18. I'm not familiar with anal fissures in dogs but worked for a colorectal surgeon for many years and agree that they're extremely difficult to heal and tend to recur. They can also be extremely painful so I'm glad that Dylan is acting normally. The only advice I would give is to make sure his stools remain soft. The larger and harder stool the stool is and the more straining he does then the longer it'll take to heal on its own. I know that in humans a Botox injection could be used but was proven to be not very successful so patients ultimatemately ended up having a fissurectomy. Good luck and please keep us posted!

    Steak

Oh, noo!! I'm so, so sorry for you, Bruce and the girls. My heart is breaking for you. You were all so amazing with Steak and I just can't seem to find the words right now that express the way your relationship with him touched me. Sending hugs to you and the girls.
  20. I'm so very sorry that you had to part with Bee Wiseman. I always loved seeing her pictures and just seeing her fabulous name always made me smile. There's just never enough time with these members of our families. They just wrap themselves around our hearts so tightly. I hope the happy memories outshine the heartache.
  21. Awwww, Beth, this is just the sweetest thing I've read today! I'm so happy for all of you to hear that Steak is holding steady and just seems so happy again. Hoping you all have another restful night.
