The reason that I am asking is becuase I give the large size. I would like to give these more frequently to help with tartar (in addition to brushing of course), and I thought that it might be more affordable to give the regular size on a daily basis. I think I have seen that other people have given the regular size to greys. I was wondering how common this is, and if it is safe.

Scully tries to eat everything whole so I give him the Large size to stop him doing that and choking to death.

If I could afford the large size I would be giving Lovee those, but since I really can't I give her the regular size ones and just make sure I watch her when she is chewing on them. I try to give her one every couple of days. With anything like that I always keep an eye on her to make sure she does not choke.

I give the petite size. Usually after dinner. About every other day. It freshens his breath and it keeps him occupied for a little while. He's satisfied with his treat and then falls off to sleep. The larger ones were just too expensive to give frequently.

I give the petite size, every day after their last turn out. They run into much money, that's why I give them the smaller size. They take their time eating them, I've had no problems at all giving them the smaller size. However, when we go the vet, they always get a large greenie.

I feed large because I'm afraid of the swallow-whole-choke kind of thing. It is expensive, though. i've been giving large greenies and CET chews and spend more on dog treats than people treats!
I think I will try the petite size for my male. He eats things slowly, takes his time. The foster I have now is a piranha! She makes short work of a large, so i would be afraid of her choking.
Thanks! i didn't think i could give the petites to larger dogs!

Regular here because they get one everyday and larges are so much more expensive.

It's the only thing I trust Indy not to choke on actually - he savors every bite it seems.

We vary the size...I just bought all the clearance Greenies Pet supplies plus had...for 75% off!! Don't care what size for that price.

I voted "regular", but use "petite" also.
75# Gordon gets regular. 50# Gracie gets petite. I swear it's not b/c I love Gordon more than Gracie. This way, they finish them in about the same amount of time, and Gracie keeps her girlish figure.
I also use one size up (large/reg) for special occasions like Christmas. I don't think the smaller ones make choking any more likely b/c my dogs just break the larger ones into smaller pieces anyway, as they break them down.

Because they are expensive I was looking to buy the petite size so I could give them more often. I searched the internet and found the regular size for $ .67 each, and bought 56 of them.

I voted jumbo. I've been afraid of giving them the smaller sizes but maybe I will try it. As it is, we can only give them greenies once a week because $22 for 12 jumbos is a lot of money, IMO.

We feed petite as well and so far none of the dogs have had a problem with it.

We bought ours in a big jumbo pack so that they are $0.41 each.
Edited to add: We also give them one every week on fish night.

Large only, and one every day before bedtime. I think mine would try to swallow anything smaller. Yeah they're spendy, but they're among the few chewies that don't give Tipper the screaming yellow squirts. Poor boy!

I give large-- I was going by what it said on the box, and then when I saw him with it, well, I'd be afraid too to give smaller.
I also found them on the internet for a good price... use Froogle or another comparison shopping program/site, and you can find them at that size for less than $1 each USD (I paid a bit more to find a company that shipped to Canada, plus the shipping, etc-- still came out to about $2 cdn, and they sell for 3.50 in stores here, plus tax!).
I give about 2 per week, and we brush teeth almost daily too.

I feed jumbos or large. Petedge.com has a good price in bulk. My boy is 80lbs. and would eat the small ones whole!

I buy the petite size for my crew of 8. They have no problems with this size. Right now KV vet is having a terrific sale on all sizes... some you buy 5 16 oz. packages & get one free! On the petite ones it lowers the price to about $.38 apiece & I got free shipping! www.kvvet.com

I give the large size.....check on EBay...that is where I get mine. You have to buy in bulk, but the prices are awesome!

Jan 17 2005, 01:07 AM
I feed regular size and it takes Joe about 20-30 minutes to gobble it down. At first, I was like "$1.19 for a dog treat?!" and then I realized that I had just stopped at the gas station and paid $1.26 for a bottle of pop for myself. Hmmm....
I am always tempted to buy in bulk of eBay because of the GREAT prices I see, but have a hard time justifying putting out $50+ at one time on dog treats, even though over the long run, it's much more logical!

I give the petite sized,
the way I look at, even the large size become small once they have been munching on it a while, they can either attempt to swallow a petite sizedor the leftover remains of a large.

I give the Large to the boys and the regular to Martina-they are new to her. I only give them when I can sit and and keep an eye on them as it takes them about 15 minutes to finish one...Martina a bit longer as she like to lick them to death!

After reading this thread I decided to give our boys the petite size to see what they would do. They've always like the greenies okay but they're not as crazy about them as it sounds like some of your hounds are. So I gave them each a petite greenie yesterday and they handled them okay. Neither of them choked and Smokey actually got bored in the middle of his and left it on the floor.
So we will try giving them a greenie a day since they seem to help with their teeth and breath. I'm also trying to give them RMBs a couple times a week.

Salvador gets large greenies. He would swallow whole anything smaller. He goes through phases where he just hoards them and won't eat them, and then suddenly he'll start pulling them out from under things and eat one after another.

Our girls (sm and med size) get petite greenies or the chopped up bits that go over food. Bad breath is never a problem in our house, and they handle the petite size very well. I wouldn't want to give larger because they would replace meals with those! Besides, they are indeed expensive in the bigger size.

Only once a week or so but one of my dogs -or maybe more than one (some non-greys) have been throwing them up partly digested--sort of this squishy green half digested mass.
Anyone else see that?

Geeze, I never even thought about giving the smaller sizes! We buy large greenies, but Bella gets just 1-2 a week because of the price. They really help her teeth though (those and Nylabone edibles), so maybe we'll start buying the regular or petite sizes so we can feed them to her more often without all that extra cost.

Large lasts for about a minute with my dogs. Jumbo last much much longer, so I use those, because I imagine that the benefit is from chewing them rather than engulfing....and also I like that they are distracted longer than a minute when I give them....My dogs would swallow regulars after a few seconds, I'm sure.
I'm thrilled about the frozen tip, and the ebay thing!

We tried the large greenies, but Rocket always ended up with tummy troubles afterwards... turkey necks are easier on his stomach, and we figure they're a bit heathier anyways

How do you get your dog to eat them slowly? We had to take it away as she tried to eat it in two bites and we were afraid it would get cought in her throat.

One petite one after every dinner. She has tried to become smart and wil come to me before she finishes thinkiing she will get her greenie (which admittedly she does sometimes) and then will finish her dinner.
Yes...she has me wrapped around her dewclaw.
