Just a poll to see what people are feeding, what you like and dislike about the foods listed. Sorry about the previous poll canidae lovers

I voted "Other" as I mainly feed The Honest Kitchen. I do keep dry food on hand to use from time to time. Right now it is Artemis.

I use Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul for my cats and grey, because of the positive reactions to the food that I've read here. Both species in my house love their version, eat it well, small solid stools, etc.

I feed California Natural Lamb and Rice plus a variety of other foods added in (chicken, raw beef, eggs, fish, veggies, cottage cheese, yogurt, Missing Link, pumpkin and I'm sure there's something else I'm forgetting...).

California Natural. Lower in fat,few ingredients, and her coat is nice and healthly. But the bigest thing is she likes it.

Canidae, I like that it has human grade ingredients, and Patrick does well on it. I would consider switching to an organic food, but no one around here carries any.

I voted other since we feed more than one thing.
Scout gets Eagle Pack
Toby and A.J. get Pro-Plan/Pedigree
Cinnamon get's a bland diet.
On top of that we mix various things into their food.

I voted for Maya, she gets Eagle Pack Premium Select Holistic, I did try Canidae with her but her coat lost it's sheen plus she was fussy with the food.
Sunny went from Canidae, to Nutro Natural Lite to the Dental formula, on Canidae he gained too much weight, I needed to reduce calories and then the Dental to see if it would help his teeth, I noticed an improvement between the teeth where the brush can't get, on the Canidae he was getting brown deposits between the teeth.

Thanks for adding Canidae! I already voted before it was added. So now you know what we use.

Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul. Cheaper, but same quality as many of the other good brands. And Wysong for the 'other' dog.

CSFTDLS because everyone loves it, does great on it, it has great ingredients and it's cheaper than other premium foods.

BARF, b/c it's biologically appropriate, it's easily digested, it keeps their weight healthy, it's good for their teeth and gums, and I know exactly what my dogs are eating.
Processed foods, IMHO, are not what the dog is designed to eat. I've never known a dog to *cook* for itself!

I just don't know why we stopped feeding our dogs a natural diet and started feeding stuff out of a bag or can. Convenience? Maybe. Conditioning? Probably. Lack of knowledge? I'd say so.
I'm not being critical of those who feed processed foods, b/c everyone has to do what they believe is the best for their dog/s. I just know that our dogs will NEVER eat processed again, and certainly never as a way of life. The occasional can or meal of kibble surely won't kill them, but why feed them stuff they don't need and/or can't use anyway? Artificial colours, flavours, preservatives, are all added for the benefit of ppl, not their dogs.
I buy fresh, whole raw foods, and supplement when necessary for specific reasons. I find that the foods my girls eat keep them healthy, with the exception of Ruby (non grey) who has skin allergies, but only in the tropics.

I'm supplementing her with an omega 3/6/9 blend of oils and have seen some improvement. I've just started with some herbal skin and ear preparations, so we'll see how that goes in the next month or so.
So, I feed BARF and that's my reasons. Oh, and one more benefit? Tiny poops!

Our hounds (and any foster/permanent grey we get in) eat a mixture of Wysong dry (right now it's Synorgon, but they've also tried the Maintenance and Anergen) and Spot's Stew canned. We do get other varieties of canned food like Wellness, Solid Gold, Canidae, CSFTLS, Eagle Pack, etc just so they don't get bored with one kind.

I feed Sensible Choice for my guys. I'm considering putting Atlas back on Proplan, maybe even Purina One. He doesn't seem to do as well on the SC as Icarus does.
I would feed BARF but the necessary ingredients are hard to come by here. I've done some searching around and Dr. Doolittle and The Big Bag are the only places to get the necessities. It would cost me a small fortune too.

I'm feeding Kamin Eukenuba. I found out purely by accident that he does wonderful on this food. Good firm poop, no gas, beautiful coat and he actually gained a little weight! (he's my skinny skinny boy) I've tried a whole lot of other foods for him (Canidae, ProPlan, CSFTDLS, Wellness, Avoderm, California Natural) but this one seems to work best for him. Not what I ever thought I'd be feeding him, but it works. He is eating the prescription fish & sweet potato variety right now, but that's because we get it at the vet school when he donates blood. The first few bags we had given to the adoption group for foster kibble, then we found out how well he does on it.

I feed either Nutro Natural Choice (L&R, Large Breed, or High Energy) or Premium Edge (L&R or C&R). It depends on what is the best deal at the time. My crew does just as well on either of them. Right now, they're well into a bag of Nutro Natural Choice large breed.

Science Diet Lamb & rice mixed with cooked brocolli (or whatever veggie is in season that he likes). We fed it to my shihtzoo for 16 years - she stayed very healthy. Max gets it now too (we like it cause it doesn't make him fart as much and his poop is easy to pick up).

I feed Solid Gold Wolf King because the ingredients are awsome, it's made for large breed dogs, the poops are just right, not too firm, not too loose and my dogs are maintaining they're perfect weight. Overall this seems to be the perfect food for my greys!

Firstmate brand foods - usually potato and fish version - however at the moment - he's on the light/trim version of their food.
So I voted 'other' but I don't think it falls under the holisitic/natural genre.
It's one of the rare foods which doesn't contain flippin' RICE!

BARF here

why? because kibble almost killed 2 of my dogs, shadow could eat only 1 kind, purina one, and when she was 4 years old she was so unhealthy we nearly put her down, she was so arthritic she could barley stand, she was on BARF for 4 years and did wonderfully, acts like a puppy again etc.. she is back on kibble in her new home(healthy vitality) but the 4 years of BARF must have strength'nd her tummy because it does not make her throw up at all anymore, and she kept her shiny coat and puppy activity, although her arthitus is comming back a little so I do have my friend at least give her some raw chicken when her parents are not home, so that is keeping her going. Happy could not eat any kibble it made her so sick that we had to force her to drink something, she was throwing up constiantly, her coat was really dull and flaky, and after the switch she is all better too! Ripley basicly went from fat and lazy to muscular and unbelievable energy within days of the switch, who knows how misty, blair, and perky would do on kibble though, I think perky would do fine just because she lived on the streets so long that her body will handle any food well because food is food lol but misty and Blair have been on BARF from the get n go.

Used to feed Wellness, and I still think it's a very good food. Switched to Blue Buffalo because the vitamins are not cooked, they add them to the kibble raw.

I voted "other holistic/natural" because I feed Natural Blend by Royal Canin. We also mix a spoonful of ProPlan canned food with dinner for some excitement

She has a beautiful sleek coat, good teeth, and healthy poops!
It's a good quality food and Ace likes it and will eat it

Edited to add lots of the brands listed aren't available here (Canidae, Wellness, CSFTDLS, etc.). Basically I can't get it if Petco or Petsmart doesn't carry it. At work we sell Eagle Pack Holistic but lordy is it expensive! Since she does well on the food she's on, we'll stick with it

I am now feeding River, Medi Cal High Fibre dry and canned food. His stool, appetite and coat have improved tremendously! Excellent for puppers with loose stool!
It is made and available only in Canada.

I'm probably the only one out there feeding Iams with all their bad publicity, but all three of my dogs have done greyt on it - they are in beautiful sleek condition - defined muscle tone, shiny coats, firm poops (not so small, tho) and plenty of playful energy.
I do add about 1/2 cup add-ins - either canned mackerel, spinach or carrots; fresh sweet potatoes, a little juicy canned Iams, and a dollop of plain yogurt every day.
With the latest info out about how bad onions are for dogs, make sure your dog food and/or cookies do not contain onion powder!!

We just adopted Willa a seven year old that was returned because she had projectile vomiting and severe diarrhea. We took her for tests which didn't really show anything, but vet put her on Hill's Prescription Z/D Ultra food which is $40 for 18 lbs. I feed her one cup four times a day and she is no longer vomiting or having diarrhea. He had said to feed two cups twice a day, but she just brought it up. I'm going to give her a little more just to try her out because I think the poor thing is always a little hungry on just the one cup at a time.
I had her on Chicken Soup For the Soul which made her very sick and Cody, my 8 year old 107 lb guy has been on Pro Plan for 4 years and has never had any problems.
