lexie just started iams low residue and i thought the vet ordered eukenoba. Is there a difference in any of the low residue ones like hills or canine or eukanoba or iams? Also, is there a web site I can order them myself or do I have to go through the vet since they say prescription dog food on the bag? Oh for those who have to feeed low, the sec there said for a treat , she buys a few cans of the soft food and puts it in ice cube trays and freezes it. The dogs love it for treats since that is all they are allowed to eat right now. I hope this food works cuse the next step is the colonoscopy and endoscopy if it doesnt sad.gif

When Soul had his HGE episode the put him on Science Diet ID. I really don't like it very much and would like to get him on something else, but scared the blood will come back

Don't many of the 1 protein-1 carb or grain-free dog foods fit the definition of 'low residue' food?

Eukanuba Veterinary Diets have switched their name to the Iams Veterinary Diet. It's the same thing. My dog is on this diet too, temporarily I hope since she does not have a IBD diagnosis. Just using it to help her get over a diarrhea episode. I know the igredients seem low quailty and gross, but they must be doing something right becuase my sister's non-grey was on this diet for about 10 years due to her IBD and it was great for her. I don't think it matters which diet you use since all the prescription low residue diets are for the same condition. I'd go for which ever one is the most tasty for your hound! Also, Royal Canin makes a treat that is made from apple fiber that may be allowed since it has no protein but the frozen canned food sounds good too. I've also heard you can cut up chunks of the canned food and bake them in the oven until crunchy.
There are some websites you can buy the food from but you have to have a prescription from your vet. I am leary about these websites because I'm not sure if they get their food directly from the manufacturer or what.
Good luck and don't worry, IBD is a managable disease!
