Gigi's having stomach trouble --
Linkyso I've been feeding her boiled chicken and rice.
The problem is, as I found out when I went to the vet today, is that it's instant rice which I guess doesn't help.
But does it hurt the pups? I'm asking because I made a whole ton of it last night, and would hate to see it go to waste, so I could feed it to Pulitzer.
Thanks!

It doesn't matter what sort it is, provided it is cooked to mush. It is only a source of starch to help bind a loose tummy and a 'filler'. If the rice grains are still intact it is not cooked enough and will go straight through.

Also, I'd fast Gigi right now. Anything you put in her is just going to irritate her stomach and take it longer to heal. We always fast at least 12-24 hours when the pups have bad diarrhea.

I second the fast.
Why is instant rice worse than regular white rice?

Clue me in as I have never made anything but "instant" rice. What is the problem with it???

I could see brown rice being hard to digest because of the extra fibre, but it seems like instant rice is easier to get over-cooked and mushy than regular long grain rice. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if instant rice has even more of the rice hull stripped away.

I've always used the boil-in-a-bag kind. .Just make sure it's cooked really well. I always have a box in the pantry and some hamburg in the freezer.

I've always used the boil-in-bag white rice. It firmed everything up perfectly.

I always use Instant Rice and Morty gets some with every Feeding. But now it made me think , that a Friend of mine
takes her Dog to the Vet and this Vet said not to give him Instant Rice only Regular cooked Rice. I also make only
one Cup at the time ....... now I am really puzzeled !Is there more to it ????

Instant/Minute rice is par-boiled,nothing different really than regular rice other than its been started already and therefore cooks in minutes. not sure why it would matter other than maybe it doesnt absorb the extra water in the intestine?
I think its supposed to do that and that's why its not as good as "regular" rice... just a thought though.

Hmmm...I am not sure why the vet would make a big deal about instant rice. The main difference is that instant rice has fewer of the calories, carbohydrates and protein than regular rice and it loses some of its flavour. But other than that...I can't see why it would be harmful. Maybe the concern is the decrease in nutrients.
