Rainy is gassy! LOL she's gassy with treats and even when she chews on a compressed rawhide. (supervised of course) I'm soon going to be buying my second round of treats and need to know what is affordable and what would be nicer on our noses.

So.... what do you guys us on your gassy hounds? I need little treats for training games.

My all time favorite training treat: Natural Balance food rolls. Because training treats should only be about the size of your pinky nail, a 2.5 lb roll lasts us a good couple weeks.

Small pieces of dried liver are excellent for training. Even a small piece is prized by most dogs and they are keen to earn it. It is clean to handle and keeps well if kept dry.

Is there any special way to cut it up into little bits?

Can you buy dried liver? Could I use the dehydrator to make it? We got a free sample of the kong liver treat, and she went nuts over it. lol

We use the Authority liver treats from Petsmart. I divide them in half, so they just get a taste and a whiff. I also give Mother Hubbard dog biscuits, size small, and break them into pieces. My dogs are big on number of treats, not size or longevity. I also give frozen green beans, frozen pieces of banana and pieces of apple (no seeds or core) Hope this helps!

I use tiny liver treats for training. I do not use rawhides because they give my hounds gas. Gas is not good. I also use the small size Old Mother Hubbard treats and carrots and apples.

Mostly Paul Newman/Newman's Own and Dogswell treats... sometimes, I've bought Beggin' Strips and stuff like that. None of 'em seem to give Speck gas so he does pretty well with them, especially the PN and Dogswell ones. I know PN makes smaller sizes for training.
My mom always buys Speck Snausages, which are kind of small (though she calls every treat a Snausage, even if it's not.

We get the generic petsmart biscuits - the small ones in the big bag, milkbones from Costco or the dried chicken treats from Costco. DH picked out some treats at Petsmart the other day that look like pigs in a blanket...dogs seem to like them a lot. Of course, most of them also eat poo when given the chance, so I'm not sure how refined their palette is

My Morty crimps his Nose by every Treat . Every time we go to PetsMart , the Girls on the Register give him a Treat and he
just ignores it. I have bought so many different Treats like Nature's Choice Apple . Milkbone's , Old Mother Hubbard Peanut
Treats . You Name it , I bought it and I have to give it to my Grand Dogs .The only Treat he likes is Smoked Chicken
Tenders .

The only "cookies" my Gunner seems to tolerate (with his tummy) are the Newman's Own / Natural Peanut Butter or Chicken-Apple Treats. They are little heart shaped treats, and all three of my guys love them-- no tummy issues and no gas !
Otherwise carrots and apples

We use the Iams biscuits for small dogs. The Kirkland biscuits from Costco are awesome also and we broke those in half because they are large. Dogs love both kinds, it just depends if I make the trip out to Costco or not.

Luther can't have biskies..but he loves the BilJac soft liver treats. I split them in half or in 1/3's and use them only as special treats for walks; it helped cure his "statueing" problem..But of course I have created another problem; he now stops, looks at me and demands his treat before continuing..If I say no, then he locks his legs, looks away, looks back and clacks his teeth...yeah now who is training who???

I found that the "Pounce" kitty treats make perfect sized soft training treats for the dogs.

So far mine has liked pretty much every treat I've tried, but I like the ingredients in Paul Newman's (mentioned above), Nutro Natural Choice Crunchy treats (come in carrot, apple, and blueberry), and Blue Buffalo biscuit treats. I have no idea about the gas factor, but these have no corn, wheat, or soy. Or VitaLife chicken strips/chips/tenders should be pretty much gas-free -- they're just dehydrated chicken.

George will eat anything, so I use pieces of his normal kibble as treats! Then I deduct them from his daily ration (poor abused dog!).

Just don't run out of treats on a walk! Besides, I think that just means your doing your job as a trainer correctly.

I wonder how this would be on her belly..... Interesting idea. Although I might have the cats and dog all fighting over it.

Wow! I'm going to have to sneak him a cell phone so he can call for help!

Thanks for all the great ideas everyone! We will slowly work our way through the ideas and see which ones work for our nose hairs.

we do nutro treats and old mother hubbard..... our favorite soft treats are rollover expecially the salmon flavor! once in a while i pick up the dried buffalo liver and they love it! best way to pick treats is the ones with the least amount of ingredients, keep it as simple as you can. petsmart has a nice variety if really good treats for good prices... i really like their holdiday cookies they bring in they look and smell like people cookies but are made for dogs.

Just cut them with a knife in whatever size you desire

The food rolls literally come in a cylandrical roll. Just take off the wrapper and cut away.

we don't do treats very often, since their daily meals are so delish (rawbies represent!). We do give those awful Kanine Karryouts treats on dremel days, the dogs love them and I figure they aren't going to do anything bad if they only eat one or two a week.
Other than that, the only 'treats' they get are people-food handouts like the bruised end of a banana or crust of bread left over from a sandwich - which they know not to beg for, thank goodness!

Zukes has teeny tiny training treats that are fabulous and good for them. All of zukes products are fabulous.
