My friend just called & will be coming back from a trip with a truck load of venison including prime cuts, organ meat & bones. Does anyone have any experience with the feeding of deer meat to greys? I am going to have enough for a year if I call him back tomorrow...for free! Glad I kept my old upright freezer. Looks like I will also have a bunch of pheasant as well.

Oh man, are you lucky! My dogs looove venison! I'd be careful about the leg bones, if he's bringing those, weight bearing bones for such a large animal are too dense. And pheasant! wow!

Same deal as anything raw-no weight-bearing bones, but anything else is ok. Depending on which organs he's bringing back (and if you have a grill/smoker) you can smoke the lungs and esophagus yourself. My guys like the heart and tongue, too. Enjoy! Pharaoh certainly will!

Yep, venison is great! Me and DF were cutting and wrapping the last deer he got and Frank was just mesmerized; he managed to snarf up the little pieces I "accidently" dropped. This was before we started raw feeding, and sadly I tossed all those wonderful rib and neck bones! He did get quite a bit of nice prime meat though, us humans enjoyed the rest... Some of the best hamburger I have ever had, we ground it ourselves.

Someone gave me a freezer full of venison over the summer and my gang absolutely went bonkers over it!

Duncan got his first venison this year. He didn't take to it like a duck to water. I'm a mean mom who wouldn't feed him anything else until he ate it. Once he started eating it, he is pushy (nosey) trying to get more.
Just saying that if your dog refuses it at first hold out.
I am very jealous that you are getting so much. We live in hunting country and the hunters can't be bothered to gut a deer and "harvest" the yummy dog parts. Drives me nuts!
So, thank the guy who is giving them to you. He is going out of his way to get all those parts in the first place.

Yes, you are lucky to be getting the organs, since many hunters gut the game in the field and bury the gut pile or leave it for the coyotes. My Mom grew up on a ranch and they hunted deer there when I was a kid, and had the luxury of bringing them up to the house to slaughter, so there was always liver and heart for the farm dogs.

ooooh, our pups would be so jealous! Venison is good doggie eats, ours go nuts for it. That, and fresh rabbit - definitely the favorites around here!
