All three of my pups eat Pro Plan Lamb and Rice. I mix it with a little bit of homemade chicken and rice stew in every meal. It is the ONLY food all three love, and all three have perfect poops with, and all three tummys are healthy using it! (My Gunner was a little bit of a challenge, as he has a very sensitive tummy)

HOWEVER, Pro Plan changed the formula a little, and it is now called Pro Plan "Shredded" Lamb and Rice. I noticed it no longer has beet pulp, and there are a few minor changes. The pups are doing well with it, but, the size and quantity of the poop has changed significantly! YIKES! ohno.gif omg.gif Has anyone else noticed this?

Does anyone have any suggestions? The old formula was 100% perfect for my guys.

Shredded canned has been around for awhile. I fed it to Dylan in '05 and '06 when he was recovering from his cancer surgery. I haven't used it since May '06.

Did you notice the size of the bag is less now too

I am NOT happy

Dogs don't seem to mind but the poops are alittle bigger now that I think about it.
RobinM
yes, we USED to eat the pro plan chicky and rice and they changed that formula too.

Now, we switched to pro plan sensitive stomach / salmon which is better for their tummies. Beau is the one with the stomach issues!

They love it but I did do a slow transition.

I don't use these, but I read in some forum that Pro Plan has received a lot of complaints and will be bringing back some of the original formulas very soon, in addition to keeping the shredded blend kind.

I'm in the process of switching Beth to Pro Plan selects salmon and brown rice, and it seems to be going pretty well.

I found a few bags of the old formula and bought 3 of them last week
I am going to check another Petco and try to get a few more bags.

Timmy has done better on it, Lucius has dorn worse, Argos adores it, and my Dal doesn't eat Pro Plan.

Make sure to introduce gradually. It has caused the big D in several of my friends hounds. They didn't do a good job of letting consumers know that the old formula was going to no longer be available.

Agreed. I had no idea! One day my food was at the store...I went in because I was low...and new food was all that was there. I was mad!

We got a sample of the Shredded Chicken formula, and Hope ate it up with no problems. She's got an iron-clad tummy though since she eats something different every day, plus it was only a cup of food.

My pups LOVE the new stuff - but their poops have been "fluffier" than they used to be. dunno.gif

Only the original ProPlan Adult Chicken and Rice will be brought back and most stores won't have it until January. It will be sold in 37.5 pound bags only.

I bought a bag of the old Lamb and Rice and a bag of the new Shredded Lamb & Rice and mixed them together. I e-mailed them that I was not happy with the change and that they were only bringing back the Chicken & Rice old formula. I also mentioned that it was a smaller bag and was more expensive. Probably won't do any good but I can try. Petsmart only had one bag of the old formula, I wanted to get more. I wont buy at Petco any more as their prices are so much higher.

I contacted Purina about the new shredded formula at the end of September (I was not happy about it because the cost went up, and the weight went down and one of my dogs swallows her food whole (I wet it down) and the shredded pieces are chunks and pose a choking hazard to her). This was their response:

Thank you for contacting Nestlé Purina PetCare Company.

We appreciate you contacting us, and expressing your feelings. Please know that they are important to us. We would like to assure you that your comments will be noted, and reported to the appropriate individuals in our Company. We feel certain that careful consideration will be given to them and any others we might receive.

For over 75 years, the scientists and nutritionists at Purina have been working to develop the best pet foods possible. Even though we have been studying dogs and cats for a long time, we learn something new nearly every day. Changes are part of an ongoing process of continuous improvement to provide better products to our consumers.

Please know the reason why we have downsized the bags to accommodate the lighter density of the product. The new shredded kibble in Purina® Pro Plan® brand Dog Food - Shredded Blends is a lighter/less dense kibble, which makes the whole formula less dense. Because it is less dense, it would take less food, by weight, to fill the same size bag.

We are very concerned about the situation you described and would appreciate your help in investigating this. If you still have the product packaging, we would appreciate your e-mailing us with the UPC code and the information contained in the "Best If Used By" date box printed on the back or bottom of the packaging. This information will aid our Quality Assurance department in determining where and when the product was manufactured. In addition, the information will be shared with the manufacturing plant.

We are most anxious to restore your confidence in our products. Thus, we are mailing a complimentary coupon for your use. Also, to help make up for some of your inconvenience, we are including several high value discount coupons we hope you'll use the next time you purchase Nestlé Purina PetCare Company products. Please allow 7-10 business days for delivery.

Again, thank you for visiting our web site.

My dogs are now eating the shredded blend chicken and rice variety, and this is a food they will eat WILLINGLY with NO added canned food....so I'm going to stick with it for awhile. Poos are OK, not really any different.

I did notice today that Rascal left a bunch of the shredded bits in her bowl....but Ruby was happy to finish those up!
FosterFlunker
3 of my greys ate every scrap except Einstein and he left a few of the shredded pieces of lamb. This is the first day for them. Have not noticed the poo yet.
