Well I certainly can attest that Canidae has made my dogs poops horrible since the formula change. Read the statement from Canidae and the letters following by the consumers. Now I need to decide what food to go to.

If you do a search here for Canidae, you'll find a lot of stuff about it. Most of us have changed to other brands.
For now I'm using ProPlan Sensitive Skin & Stomach (fish based). They are doing well on it. t's a couple more $$$'s through the vet, but I will get a free bag after 4. Not all vets have this deal (?) with ProPlan or their local distributor. The vet tech said that this contract ends at the end of this year and she doesn't know if it will be offered again next year.
You go to Costco. A lot here feed the Kirkland brand and are happy with it.

We hoarded several bags of pre-formula-change food, so we're just now about a half a bag into the new stuff. We did a nice, gradual change-over, and even after several weeks of just the new formula, we've still got voluminous, mushy poos and tons of gas.
We're going to finish out the current bag just in case things get better, but I've pretty much made the decision (or, as it were, Arty's digestive system has made the decision) that we need to make a switch. I was going to write a letter to Canidae telling them why they're losing us as a customer, but after seeing how many people have already complained, I don't know if it's worth the bother.

I didn't know if it was ASia and the chemo but she has been done with it for a month. and Nova I thought she needed time to acclimate. I really think it is the changed formula.
Kirkland sounds good but they boil down the meat and loose the nutrition, ( I may be wrong)
I want to try the Nutro Holistic formula.
When Canidae came out I was so happy that I could feed the best, I still want the best for them. This weekend I will go to Agway and pick up a bag of Nutro Holistic. I fed Darius Nutro for years before Canidae came out.

If you can find it,
American Natural Premium is pretty similar to the old Canidae formula. It has a bit more grain, and fewer calories, but we have done rather well on it for over a year now!

Maybe I'm the only one, but my dogs are doing great on the new formula. They eat Canidae All Life Stages, and we've had no problems whatsoever. I moisten the food with a bit of warm water, and sometimes supplement with a bit of plain fat-free yogurt. Maybe the difference is that mine free-feed, and don't eat their entire meal in 90 seconds.

Mine are doing wonderfully on the new ALS formula too, with one exception. They are always, always hungry. They've taken to chewing on stuff like doorstops and fish aquarium air pumps in their quest for something to eat. They vacuum up their food like starving wolves. Their coats look good, their weight is perfect and there's a lot less poop to clean up, though.
I am less than impressed with Canidae's decision to use the Diamond food manufacturing facility. I switched back to Canidae from CSFTDLS--made by Diamond--because I got a bad bag. So now the "safe" alternative is made by the same people. Great. I also really, really don't care for the drop in bag size and increase in price. Getting less for more, what a great proposition.
Unfortunately, in this area there are limited choices for foods that my dogs can actually eat. Raven is terribly allergic to wheat products and neither of them do well on foods with a lot of corn.
I wonder how much money they've lost since cheaping out. They seem to be losing customers left and right. Few people I've talked to are happy with their food now. If I had a choice, I'd switch too. I suspect that their efforts to cut costs and pad profits will end up severely hurting them. They had a great thing going and a fanatically loyal customer base, and they had to go and screw with it.

I've had mixed reviews with the new ALS formula. However, I just purchased the grain free ALS and it's been wonderful so far. I am trying it on my girl who tends to be loose. So far it reminds me of the old formula...smaller stool, etc. Of course that comes with a price...a hefty price...30 lbs for 50.00...ouch

HI,
I've fed Canidae for several years, and, also have a stockpile of the old formula left. I purchased one bag of
the new formula, and have been adding a handful at a time to big bowls of the old formula, just to do a VERY
gradual switchover.
The ingredient list for the new Canidae still looks pretty good to me, but after the Menu Foods fiasco of last year,
I'm thinking of switching to a food that's made in-house, rather than farmed out to a big co-packer.
So far, I'm looking at Fromms and Natura (Innova/Evo). Any comments on these foods?
I buy wholesale, but with 6 dogs to feed, it still adds up.
Would love to hear from Fromm's feeders on how their dogs did/are doing on this food.
Thanks,
Mary

We fed Fromm four-star duck and sweet potato a few years ago. It truly was the best food we wver fed. Naples coat was shiny as could be, and everything about her was very good!
The trouble was, we were going broke! It is a very expensive food. However, the stuff we feed now (American Natural Premium) is made by Fromm. It's really good stuff!
Our cat gets Fromm four-star Salmon A La Veg, he LOVES it, and is very healthy on it! Shiny coat, lots of energy (even for a 12 year old!), and not a ton in the litter box. He's a happy kitty!

We switched from Canidae right before the switch. We are now feeding Fromm Duck & Sweet Potato. I couldn't be happier with it. Jed and Ripple really like it - it's the first food Ripple will eat without add-ins.
We buy ours straight from the distributor, and are able to buy breeder bags - makes it much less expensive than retail.

I'm feeding mine the new version and 2 of them are fine. The 3rd I've always had a little trouble with so he's on the new grain free ALS and he loves it and his stools have never been better!

We've been doing Innova for exactly this reason, and our pups seem to love it. I feed our cats Evo, but my vet says it's a little too high-protein for the hounds. This wholesale thing sounds good — do you have to have a breeder license?

i switched riley to canidae when we got her. this new formula seems to keep her poop soft and wet. if i mix pumpkin with it, it is firmer but i don't really want to keep buying pumpkin to solve a problem that should't be there in the first place. i'm somewhat puzzled as to what to try.

We switched from Nutro Lamb and Rice to Canidae Lamb and Rice earlier this year when I no longer felt confident with Nutro. The girlies did better on Canidae, especially my occassional seizure dog. They both got much bouncier and happy. When Canidae made the formula change, we went along with it. During the gradual change over between formulas they did great too. It wasn't until we got to 100% of the new formula that we started having really mushy, yellow poops and gas like none of my dogs have ever had before!
I contacted Canidae and told them our issues. They suggested we switch to their All Life Stages as the Lamb and Rice formula is just too rich for our girlies. They stated that the Lamb and Rice is the richest formula they carry. I also stated my concerns about being 4 bags away from our free bag, and they said not to worry, as long as I responded back to their original e-mail they would honor the UPS from the previous formula for a different kind.
I liked Canadae a lot, but between the time their gas got bad, and the time Canadae got back to me, I have already been in the process of switching to Eagle Pack Large Breed Adult. So far we are having wonderful luck with this and should be at 100% Eagle Pack this week.

I have fed Canidae ALS for several years, to my four dogs of different breeds. Trying to switch them to something new has always been a fiasco for one or another. No one's digestive tract so much as blinked (

) with this "new" formula. We continue to free feed Canidae ALS with good results.

Update here on the Canidae situation: after nearly a whole 40-lb (oops, no, make that 35-lb.) bag of the new formula Lamb & Rice, Arty's digestion issues suddenly just completely disappeared. For the past few days, his poops have been the "best" I've ever seen, and for several weeks now I've noticed that his skin and coat seem healthier than they used to (less flaking, for sure). So we're sticking with it. I'm surprised that adjusting from the "old" to the "new" formula took that long, but I'm glad we stuck it out.
