Ok, so I now have two houndies and I have to buy more food, of course, and was a bit shocked at how much Evo Red Meat went up in just a month. Very strange since gas prices have gone way down, seems like a bit of a late reaction to recoup profits, but that is another thread. I feed my two black beauties Evo Red Meat, with canned Evanger (misc flavors) mixed in. We also mix in venison, raw veggies, and fruit. Since the Evo went from $52/bag to nearly $70/bag, I was wondering, does anyone have an equivelant brand of grain free kibble?
Thanks
Chad

I hear ya! We have 4 greys on Evo! When Evo went to $75 here we decided to blend 50/50 with Kirkland food for 3 outta four greys. It is not grain free but everyone is doin' well.
I am interested in reading the suggestions you get here!

I switched from Evo to Kirkland, and I find it hard to believe myself, but 2 of the 3 are doing better and the 3rd is the exact same, no differences. I was such a firm believer in the no-grain thing, but I have to say my dogs are doing great. I do give yogurt and pumpkin still, as well as other "human" stuff, but that's all the same, their basice diet is now Kirkland. I just cannot justify the prices, especially since they are doing great. (Our Evo went up a month or two ago)
My goodness! These prices make raw look cheap!
I was just gonna say, why not just feed raw? It's not like it's hard to do, and it's way cheaper!

We have had great success with Fromm's Surf & Turf. Still pricey ($52 for a 26lb bag) but grain free and the dogs love it!

No specific food recommendations - but I'd suggest doing some research... and finding a food that meets your budget, and your standards. You'll probably be surprised by the brands you find that you can be OK with if you look at ingredients. Of course, the best advice is to find a food that YOUR dogs do well on.... regardless of the brand name. My dogs are currently on a mid-grade food - that has good ingredients, and they do VERY well on. Plus - I supplement with raw occasionally.

Have you looked into Orijen? It's very similar to Evo but a bit cheaper. Not sure they make a red meat formula though, the one I feed is chicken/turkey/fish. You get one free after 12 purchases.

Yikes

I just bought a bag two weeks ago. The 33 lb bag was about $47. It was $43 about 6 months ago. I hope when I go back to the store it better not be $70! My pups love this food and I am so reluctant to changing foods since they are thriving on it.

I 2nd Taste of the Wild. Gain was my problem child until we switched him to Pacific Stream. He loves it and it's done wonders for his allergies.

WOW - we were feeding four greys Evo until I finally switched to raw this past summer - I definitely know that raw is costing a lot less than the Evo if it's gone up that much!!

Orijen is a good food. Last time I bought it (this summer) it was $60/bag! We switched to Blue Buffalo Wilderness - the boys have been really good on it and it's only $47 ish per bag!

Are you wanting grain free?
Innova has a new red meat formula that isn't grain free, and thus the cost is a little less.

At those prices, might be worth looking at what your cost per calorie would be to feed beef/potatoes/rice yourself. Yeah, I know rice is a grain, but potatoes don't really have much if any value over rice. They're just used so the food can be called "grain-free." It isn't carb-free.
Also FWIW, I feed one of my dogs almost exclusively meat. I get it at the grocery store, so it isn't always cheap. Even so, the cost to feed her for the month is less than 1/3 of the cost to feed me. Kinda puts it in perspective, you know?

Wow, that's a major price hike. Evo went up here too, but it went from $46 to $52 (just bought a bag yesterday). And next bag I buy, I get one free (that's through the store I buy at, not through Innova).

Jey,
I have been considering raw for a little while now, and with the prices, may take a longer look.

yes i noticed the price increase too! it's terrible. i switched to wellness core because it was a bit cheaper but then i adopted a girl who needed to be on fish so now we're on pro plan sensitive stomach and they're doing well. not grain free but if you're insistent on grain free - give wellness core a try - it's not cheap by any means but a little bit cheaper.

EVO RM here has always been $72 for a 13lbs bag. I feed raw but now I keep Horizen Legacy on hand instead of EVO, which here is $60 for a 40lbs bag, my dogs do just as well with that as a fill in, as they do with EVO RM.

Whew. Just bought the boys a bag of EVO today, it just went from $47.99 to $49.99.

I can deal with that. Where the heck is the $70.00 a bag coming from???

Its almost 80 a bag. Chicago suburbs. Its great living in the windy city.

yup - i'm in chicago too, in the city not the burbs but we have the same craziness with $70 a bag. not to mention the city's 10% sales tax.
ETA: Greyt dog lover - if you have a Pet Supplies Plus near you, they have better prices on Evo than say Kriser's or other specialty food stores. Pet Supplies Plus' Evo is closer to $70/bag in the city at least.
