Anyone feed Dick Van Patten's? I've been feeding mine this for several months. Peggy has a bad skin problem that completely cleared up on this diet, so i thought it was wonderful. But after picking up Fox at the vet for his yearly exam, I learned that he has lost 7 pounds on this food. After feeding him 5 cups a day!! How is this possible? He is 3 years old, not very active, and off the track a year. Shouldn't he be gaining weight? From 71 to 64 pounds!
I went to Petco, this evening and after much debate, I switched to Nature's Recipe Large Breed. It too is hypoallergenic. I just have no idea if this is a good brand. Never even heard of it. Anyone have luck with this one?

We had been feeding Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance to Fallon for his skin condition and he did well on it. We have since changed to Fromm's Surf & Turf as we have been Fromm's feeders for years and they now offer a grain free diet.

I fed Natural Balance for a yr and my Swissy did great on it but the Grey alway had runny stools if I didn't put a Probiotic on top of the food so I switched to ProPac Lamb and Rice.

we tried the duck and potato a couple of times over the years and both our dogs lost interest very quickly and I wound up discarding a lot of expensive food. If he doesn't do well ( al lot of dogs do, mine just wouldn't eat it after a week) I've heard California Natural is a good food for dogs with allergies who need limited ingredients.

I've been feeding Sunny the potato and venison since he was diagnosed with protein losing enteropathy - thought to be caused by a food intolerance - in July. His weight has stayed the same but despite the food and two types of medication his protein levels are not improving. I just bought 2 bags and a case of canned since I had a coupon and im going to try it with Briley due to his allergies going crazy, but if his protein level is better by the time that is gone I think I'll be switching to something else.

What were you feeding before, and how much? Most of the limited ingredient diets -- and all the Nature's Recipe foods -- are VERY low in calories. Unless your dog is a total lump, you may need to feed a 70 lb. dog 6-7 cups a day to maintain weight on those foods.

I know of hounds who need grain free for allergies and they have done very well on the LID.
