I want to know is this a disease or what I can do about it?

It's a condition known as bald thigh syndrome (BTS) and it's nothing to worry about. This condition occurs in many other breeds. It's similar to male pattern baldness in humans and there's not a whole lot that can be done for it. It varies in severity from one individual to the next; some dogs will regrow some hair after awhile but many do not.
ETA: I think it's quite attractive on my girl Cali. Can't imagine her without her bald thighs and belly.

It's not a disease and there is no such thing as "Bald Thigh Syndrome". It's simply how your dog "is"

Spencer has always had it too. It could be low thyroid and it's always good to have that checked but it's probably just the way it is.

You could try using some fish oil capsules, it can help. I use Grizzly Salmon Oil - it did wonders for Merlin's bald thighs, and made his fur very soft. His tummy is still a bit bald but I wouldn't have it any other way

Ziggy was very bald when we first got him. He's not "bald" now, but I wouldn't say he was furry either! He has peach fuzz on his belly which used to be super bald!

I'm sorry but there is a condition known as "bald thigh syndrome" just look it up in COTRG. Just because there's a name for it doesn't mean it's a disease. I suppose there's also no such thing as "male pattern baldness" it's just how bald men "are."

Exactly. I don't believe I ever implied that it was a disease. "TheDoggfather" seemed to think that I was calling it a disease because I referred to it as "bald thigh syndrome." My response to his post was meant to clarify that I was not calling it a disease and that just because a condition has a name doesn't automatically make it a disease. I hope we are all on the same page now.
ETA: Just for fun I thought I'd post a picture of my lovely bald lady:

Shanti had bald thighs for years. I started giving her some Salmon Oil that GT's Fritofeet sent me. In a little over a month the hair grew back on her thighs! I was and am AMAZED by it! I tried lots of stuff and nothing else worked.

My Teddy has BTS. That's just the way he is and we love him all the same. His nec is completely bald too.
Chloe however, since on her thryoid meds has regrown about 70% in the 2 years since we've had her. But hers is different than Teddy's. He will remain bald.

I concur ! My Zulie had balding as a result of her low thyroid. With meds, her hair all grew back.

Lego has one of the nicest coats that I've ever see on a Grey but his belly is as bald as a babies behind. My wife says his belly feels like a turkey

I think his bald belly is actually kinda sweet.

Soul's a baldy! Neck, tummy, and bum! He still just as beautiful as can be. At meet and greets, everyone comments on how soft his belly is. I give him grizzly salmon oil, and he has some tufts of growth, but it's a slllloooow process. He get his jim jams if the temps drop below 45 degrees to keep him warm.

Navigator's butt and belly fur was very thin, sort of bald when I first got him. He actually filled right in after a few months of good food and momma TLC. He has been monitored for the past 3 years since I got him for his thyroid, and is now finally on inexpensive meds for it. He looks even better.

13. Greyhounds commonly have a condition termed Greyhound bald thigh syndrome.
You will note this on your Greyhound by the lack of hair on the backs of both hind legs
(some Greyhound reunions will have a “best buns” competition to highlight some of the
bald thighs). Some Greyhounds are more severely affected than others. This is largely
only a cosmetic condition and sometimes resolves once the dog retires and a good diet is
started. This condition is very rarely caused by a low thyroid level (hypothyroidism). An excerpt from Dr. Feeman's
Greyhound Medical Idiosyncrasies.

There are a number of really great books on Greyhounds and adopting retired racing hounds. They all discuss this issue. If for not other reason then they're interesting, you might want to pick one or two of them up at your local library or bookstore!
The Cynthia Brannigan books are great!

I love the bald belly and thigh look--it's just how Toby is, and we love him just like that!!
Anyway, a nice bald belly is really good for making raspberry noises on when Toby is in the roach position!

See said bald belly roaching below:

We have two puppers with bald bellies and bums here

Echo never regrew much fur on her tookus and when she "beefs" up in the summertime from the extra exercise, she tends to lose some of that fur.
Uber had a hairy tookus when he came home, but promptly lost much of it. He's now "patchy" at best.

KiKi is the same. I think some just have more hair on their bellies than others. She has a couple quarter-sized bald spots on her thighs. I LOVE her bald belly - it is so soft.

Yup, I love my buy's soft-suede belly! His tookus was exposed when we first brought him home, but now he's started to grow some hair back there. I hope his belly stays just as it is though!

Send your pup to kikibean's house! Strider had a bald butt and belly before my honeymoon and when I got him back he was fluffier than before and now has a nice crop of fuzz on his nekkid parts!

Anyone heard of spontaneous fuzzy butt? Kelly's (kikibean) house is magic!

My dogs both have bald thighs, stomachs and necks. They grow in a little more coat during winter, but by late summer they're baldbaldbald again. It's just cosmetic, and I actually think it's cute

It makes their lil butt muscles look extra-ripped!

It just depends on the pup. Donovan had and will forever have a nekkid butt and belly (he's been here 6 years). TC has more hair on his butt and belly and may grow more(he's only been here 1 1/2 years) Both have been to the vet and had total check ups.

When I first got Josey, she was bald on her thighs, belly and neck. Within the last six months, the hair on her thighs has filled in but her neck and belly are still bald. I LOVE Josey's bald belly! I can rub it, play it like bongos (which she loves) or blow raspberries on it. I thinks it's adorable and wouldn't want it any other way.

I actually wish Gordon was bald...but he is a fuzzy pup all around - hairy behind, and hairy tummy...hehe. I love the way their warm skin feels when they are bald, my chi-mix Pepper has a nekkid tummy - we call it "pig belly" here.
