Just learned today, after trips to two PETCOs and a call to the Purina folks, that the Pro Plan Selects Large Breed Formula (lamb and oat) is being discontinued due to low sales. I just ordered three bags of it from an on-line retailer, but not sure how much longer they will have it in stock.

All three of my doggies love this kibble, and all did very well on this in terms of digestion. I had to pick up a bag of the regular formula (chicken) Pro Plan Selects at the store today. I hope everything goes well with the transition.

Just wanted to let anyone who currently feeds this formula that it will be off of your shelves soon, so it's time to plan your transition to a new food.

That's hat we use. My boys have such sensative tummies that if you look at them funny they have looses stool....but pro plan salmon has been awesome for them!

We have always fed proplan. We recently switched from large breed to regualr chicky and rice however that is a new formula and there are little chunks of chicky, I think which is soft. The problem is that when the food settles to the bottom of the bin I keep it in there is mostly the soft stuff which I am not thrilled to be feeding them.

If I switch to the salmon, would I still need to do it transitionally? Probably will have to.

But I think we will change to salmon too.

ETA- I was literally thinking out loud writing this post! huh.gif

Hi ;

my guys eat lamb & rice pro plan--never used the large breed formula but they do carry it at Pet Smart. We live near both Petco and Pet Smart and find Pet Smart less expensive for they greys stuff and also all our kitty needs.

You've noticed that too?? Seems like all the rest are on sale except that...

Really, what is the difference between Purina-One and the Pro-Plan line?

We found the the Pro-Plan Lamb & Rice agrees with our new hound (The Kirkland chicken rice & veggie formula didn't), but also noticed there is a Lamb & Rice version of the Purina-One.

ProPlan is also changing their Beef/Rice, Chicken/Rice and Lamb/Rice formulas for a "Shredded Piece" formula. I find this is a big mistake. Most customers such as myself and going to wonder what they did to the formula and that my dog would only eat the shredded pieces and leave the kibble.

Two of my girls love the ProPlan Sensative Skin and Stomach formula. We have great poos and results. I hope they leave this one alone.

I started feeding the Salmon Select to Patsie, Warlock and Fields about 6 months ago, and they have done soooo good on it. Warlock has allergies, Fields has IBD and Patsie is just plain picky. I highly recommend it as an alternative to the large breed formula.

I looked at the ingredients on line and for the Salmon version, the Pro Plan does not have corn and the Purine One does.

I just picked up our first bag of the Salmon today. I'm actually thrilled because the day I called Purina about the large breed formula, they told me they would send me some coupons -- and they did -- one was for a free bag of Purina dog food, up to $49, so I just got a huge bag (40lbs) of the Pro Plan Selects Salmon, which would have been $48-ish!! yay.gif

I hope the pups like it and do as well as yours have!!
