I left the food store: paid $92 for 60# of food.....everything is going up again or has gone up.

What are you feeding and what are you paying and what area do you live in?

as a side note: I was told Innova is changing their formula, decreasing the size of the bag and increasing price eek.gif No, I don't feed it, but it was already among the highest if not the highest!
BigPercyInMa
I know this is not a popular brand for some people, but we feed Pedigree Complete Nutrition and we pay $21 for a 40lbs bag. Works for us and our dogs.
crazygang
We're in the UK and feed ours 'Lifestage Nutrition (with chicken and rice) Adult Large Breed' from Jollyes Petfood Store a 15kg bag costs £20.99

**GROAN** Oh no! It's so expensive as it is! Oh dear... Well, I'd been thinking of changing foods anyway... I guess this is my cue..

I feed Kirkland Lamb/rice/veggies..I am paying $22 for a 40lb bag...and luckily my 3 girls are grazers, so it goes a month at least

All 3 of mine are on Natural Balance and the only store I can buy it in here in northwest Louisiana is Petco. 41.99 for a 33 lb bag. I rarely pay the full price though. They always have it on sale. Natural Balance also sends me monthly coupons for $2-5 off plus every 11 bag is free thanks to my Petco Pals card. I know it's pricey but my babies are worth it smile.gif

After years of trying different brands, I have finally settled on PURINA ONE Lamb & Rice for Adult Dogs.
This food has given all of my dogs the most consistently firm & small poos.
I pay $35.99 @ Sams Club for 44lbs, which is THE very best price I can find.
Target sometimes has it for pretty cheap, too, like $16.00 for 20lbs,
or Complete Pet Mart, but ONLY if they have it on a special sale.

I'D prefer a food with less misc. ingredients like 'animal digest'(ICK!) corn, soy & wheat,
but THEIR systems do just fine with this stuff while the 'premium/pricey' brands NEED stuff
like rice or pumpkin fed WITH them to keep poo firm.
I have fed Eagle, Wellness, Solid Gold, Nutro, Nutro Maxx, Exceed and Merrick.
PURINA ONE is the ONLY brand that has had good results for ALL of my dogs ALL of the time.
I just gotta go with what works for them

Bottom line, no matter WHAT else I ever fed them NO other brand has produced the "QUALITY STOOL" in
such SMALL portions as the PURINA ONE LAMB & RICE. tongue.gif

I feed Pinnacle. I think it is a 30 (ish) pound bag of food and it is around $45 now.
greyhound1
I feed Pro Plan chicken and rice. A 18 lb bag is $16.98.
fastdogs
Pro Plan Performance around $40 for 38lbs.
JarBear
Solid Gold Wolf King....$47.99 per 33lb bag. We use 3 per month plus one bag of Solid Gold Wee Bits for our little terror and 2 large bags of cat food. Of course this doesn't include treats, yogurt and other food items added to food to keep them interested.
laceyj
We feed Eagle Pack Natural. 50lb bag for $42.00
tricolorhounds
Currently we're feeding Purina One Sensitive Stomach... I found an 18# bag at Target that was $17.00.... a few days later, we were at PetSmart where I found the 38# bag for $17.67... Needless to say, we bought 8 bags. SCORE!

Due to increasing costs, mine have been switched to this as well. Shanti's Pro-plan was $40 for a 35lb bag.
DarkHorse
Feeding Kirkland Chicken, Vegetables and Rice. It's $25 for a 40lb bag which gets us through somewhere around a month.
Sighthounds4me
We feed American Natural Premium. I don't believe it is widely distributed yet, but we are in Northeast WI. We pay $24 for a 40# bag.
JillysFullHouse
Kirkland Lamb & Rice supreme now $22.00 for 40#'s. We used to get it for $17.00 for 40#s.
ArtysPeople
I just paid $38.99 for a 40 lb., no wait, 36 lb., no wait, make that 35 lb. bag of Canidae lamb and rice. And it was one of the least expensive brands at the store. And they just went through both a reformulation and a bag size reduction. mad.gif I really don't want to go to Nutro because of all the recalls they've had, but we may be near that point.

ETA: oh, yeah, and I live in MAINE. Where there are no Costcos. I generally don't like big box stores, but come on, how many Bed, Bath and Beyonds (which seem to have popped up everywhere here like warts) do I have to turn in for a single Costco?
houndlover
I just recently switched everyone to Chicken Soup. I just picked up a bag the other nite and it is 38.99 for 35#'s. It was one of the least expensive foods that I could find with some of the better ingredients. I also have 2 dogs on rx food and just got a bag at the vet last week (purina n/f). It was 44.69 for a 20# bag....makes me want to cry to pay that much but I'm not sure what else to do. dunno.gif
Trudy
$55 for a 33 pound bag of Solid Gold Wolf King - up from $51 a bag - covers the increased fees they are being charged for shipping.
$52 for a 33 pound bag of Solid Gold Mmillennia - up from $48 a bag.

Canidae just did exactly that.......they changed their formula, decreased the size of the bag & increased the price! For a 35lb bag of Canidae I pay $39.99 in New Jersey. As for the add in food we use either Canidae, California Natural or Merrick canned and they range in price from $1.49 a can for Canidae to $1.99 a can for Merrick. Another alternate add in food is The Honest Kitchen dehydrated raw........I just bought a box of their new version called "Keen" and it was $49.00 for a 10lb box which makes 40lbs hydrated.

Then there is the yogurt they get in the morning, their supplements & all their treats..........their food bill is bigger than mine!! blink.gif
Pippin
Purina One for sensitive stomachs. I've been buying the 18lb bag at my local Publix for <20.00 They recently had a coupon so I got one for <18.00. Then a friend told me Petco/Petsmart were finally carrying the big bags of it, so I stopped at Petsmart and got a 38lb bag for about the same price as 2 18lb bags.

Honestly? I'll probably keep getting it from Publix, because I do my grocery shopping there. Petsmart is a special trip
houndznigz
That's interesting, Trudy, because those prices aren't much higher than they are in New England - I would have thought mucho more $$$$ in Alaska. All prices for virtually every brand continue to skyrocket. I recently switched to Eagle Pack Holistic Duck/Oatmeal, which runs $46-49/30 lbs. after a recent increase. I use 3 bags/month, plus a case of Evanger's canned meat as topping.

The pricetopper, though, is Timberwolf, which is $72+/30 lbs. Obscene.
rallyp
Kirkland chicken/rice... $22 (I think, definitely low $20s) for 40lbs.
FullMetalFrank
Kirkland has stayed about he same; but the raw we also feed is getting harder to find for reasonable prices. We were shooting for under a dollar a pound and it was pretty easy to get him a good variety at that price; now we are spending more for beef and pork, but can still usually get poultry for less than a dollar. Just takes a little more shopping around and looking for sales. I found turkey legs for .79 a pound today.
Burpdog
Have to alter the weight I got: 56.5# <sigh> That includes tax (the $92). With tax, BilJac frozen is 1.48#. Used to be just over $1#.

Canidae has a lamb & rice that is less expensive but with just one bad experience with the regular Canidae (Rob Roy), I'm having a hard time thinking about it lol.gif

I guess gas dropping over a dollar a gallon, it works out....
tamborine
Kirkland. They've gone up in recent weeks; they were 21.99 or 22.99 a bag, but now 24.99. Two bags a month. And I have to factor in all the canned pumpkin I buy, because EVERYTHING gives Stephanie mushy poop, without the extra added fiber.
DorasMom
In Canada I'm paying 59.99 for 35lbs of Canidae!!!!!!!!!!!
twhitehouse
We feed Purina One Lamb and Rice. We buy it at BJ's. I think its like $40 for a 44lb bag. It seems to be the only food that Lexi does really well on so we stick with it.
fsugrad
After trying several non-grocery store brands of dog food when we first adopted him, the only food that completely eliminated Toby's runny poops and gas, as well as the skunky smell he was giving off when we first got him, was Science Diet Sensitive Stomach. A 17.5 lb bag costs $30.99 at Petco. We always buy at Petco because of the buy 10 bags, get 1 bag free deal.
Tallgreydogmom
We use Kirkland Chicken, Rice and Vegetables Formula for $22.00 a 40# bag. We have 16 senior and special needs greyhounds to feed. I hope this will last a couple of weeks.

manymanyhounds
We just switched to Kirkland Chicken and Rice too after Nutro went up on price and down in size. We're still mixing now but hopefully we will get good results and save a few $$.
$21.29 for 40 lbs here in Jacksonville

That's because I get it at the feed store, not the "pet store"
Feed store charges what they are charged and then tacks on their piece of profit and splits the shipping cost.
When you bring in a container of stuff for the feed store, the shipping for each product doesn't add up to a ton.

Now the pet store on the other hand.....
when they have food, they jack up the price because they can.
They don't carry Solid Gold, so we don't go there (they don't have much of anything)

Pro Plan Performance around $40 for 38lbs.

hmm, I pay approx 73 USdollars for 33lbs PPP here in Sweden...

Kirkland Chicken, Rice and Veggies. $23 for 40 pounds. All four of mine do well on this. Sometimes have to add pumpkin when one has softer poop, but for the most part we get greyt poops and not too much gas on this food.
KiKi_Girl
I haven't noticed a change in Innova price or size-wise. I feed the adult regular and pay about $25 for ~15# bag.
NancyB
Kirkland Chicken, rice and vegetables, $23.39 for a 40 pound bag.
jang
Chicken Soup for the Pet LOvers Soul here. $37.00 for a 32 lb. bag. I sometimes add canned SAlmon or canned Pumpkin. Not because they get loose stools.......because they love little extra's. I have 2 greys. I like it because it doesn't have all the crappy grains and does have lots of good stuff. I live in Eastern PA.

Eagle Pack Natural comes in a 50lb bag? I didn't know that. Right now I am paying $33.99 for a 33lb bag of Eagle Pack Natural. That food is perfect for our dogs, great solid poops and the dogs go CRAZY when it's dinner time!

There isn't a Costco in my area of NH ether sad.gif I'd try Kirkland if there was.
However they are opening some Tractor Supply stores in NH now and they have some good prices. Not one really close, but if I buy 2 or 3 bags at once it would be OK.

I would of stayed with Canidae even with the smaller bag and price increase..if they hadn't changed formulas.

I have started them on Pro Plan Sensitive Stomach. They seem to be doing well on it. It's not cheap, but not as expensive as some. I paid almost $50 for 38 lbs at the vets. However at the vets you buy 4 and get one free.
Petco sells it also, it's just over $40. for 38 lbs..but have to buy 10 to get 1 free.
FosterFlunker
Last time I bought (pre Dewey) I paid 29.99 at Petsmart for a 37.5 bag of Pro Plan then I had a $7 coupon as well so it was even cheaper. I hope it is still that price as I need more.
Batmom
IIRC Joseph's IAMs is @ $30 for 40 lbs. The Solid Gold I used to feed Zema is @ $46 for 30 lbs. She is back to eating beef; I pay $1.60-$2.70 a pound depending on sales, etc.
cthounds
I live in Fairfield County CT, outside NYC, a very high cost of living area. But, I order online from Pet Food Direct and I pay about $42-$43 a bag for a 30 lb bag of Eagle Pack Holistic Anchovy etc
Wendie
We watched Canidae go from $32 for a 40 pound bag to $39 for a 33 pound bag. And change the formula to give totally toxic bums at our place.

From the various food trials we've done in the last few months, I know that 35 pounds of CSFDLS is about $36, 33 pounds of Taste of the Wild is $43, and 20 pounds of NutriSource is $24. Oh how I wish that a: Canidae hadn't ruined a good thing and b: we had a Costco within 2 hours of us.
fourofem
$41.79 for 30 lb. bag of Blue Buffalo Lamb and Rice in VA.
TheGreyBoysMom
We've switched to several different kibbles over the years also. Our boys have done the best and Jack, our picky eater, has continued to eat our current choice. Natures Select High Protein. 50 pounds for $48.75 My DH likes it because they deliver. If we had a Costco closer I might look into Kirkland, weve never tried it.

PiagetsMom
Kirkland Chicken, Rice and Vegetables - 40 lb bag - $22.00 at Costco here in Houston.
Mom2Shiloh
Rhode Island here. Sammy APBT can't eat rice; Shiloh is pretty sensitive... Callan eats most anything if he isn't bored <G> (spoiled puppy)... I've been sticking with either Salmon or Buffalo in Taste of the Wild which is grain free.

I get two 35# bags for the month @ $38; then I get a case (24 c) of either Before Grain or another good canned food for topping. In between the canned food they get toppings of chicken, chicken liver, ground pork. I share my veggies with them.. either raw or cooked, depending on veggie.

Sammy has had 3 mini-strokes and has recovered just fine, but he needs to be on a chinese herbal supplement with Ginko, which really seems to help him recover his mental clarity and MingMu, which helps with his allergies and sore eyes a lot.

The older boys take Arthrisoothe from NaturVet for arthritis.

With the supplements, I'm probably spending about $200 a month for food and supplements every month. But then -- I used to have a large pride of cats as well and used to average $200-250 monthly so .... I'm just used to it. (broke, very very broke ... but used to it smile.gif

NY here: $48 for a 35# bag of Eukanuba Lamb and Rice for Sensitive Stomachs - large breed dog. Just bought it the other night. Hasn't gone up recently but not holding much hope that it will stay where it is.
