Lexie has been on purina pro plan salmon and chicken . (w emix both bags.) I noticed the last time we mixed there was a lot more chicken. I want to keep the salmon but want to also add another brand . My previous dogs, not greys always had Iams. I was wondering who uses Iams if there poop is firm or other brands of dry that are good for firmer poops. ty
ps. it is sometimes hard to clean up loose poop on other peoples lawns. I don't want to get kicked out of my development..lol..any suggestions how to get that up from the grass? ( sorry so gross)

Can't speak for any other brands, but Iams Large Breed has always produced nice, firm poops. It has always worked for him!

Iams did not work for my grey...blow-out diarrhea

I actually bought a needle point ring and I put the bag inside and catch the poop. If you need a visual PM me, I can get a pic. If this doesn't work for you, you could put down newspaper or a paper plate and catch it on that... tis easier to catch than pick it up!

Costco's Kirkland Lamb & Veggies + gooooood poopsies!

I would go with Purina One before Iams. Our older dog (who has since passed) had really bad diarreah on Iams but beautiful firm poops on Purina One. When our old dog wouldn't eat dry food anymore we fed him straight canned Purina One and he always had solid poops on that as well.
Right now we feed Eagle Pack Natural which produces perfect poops in all three of our dogs. :-)
Good luck!

Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream finally gave us firm poops that we could actually pick up off the grass without leaving remnants everywhere!

We're switching over to EP Natural also and the poop is more solid than on Pro Plan--i'm impressed

Since you are in Ohio, why not try BilJac frozen? You can feed one meal BilJac and one of the kibble.

We had our grey on Canidae and it just wasn't working for her..I think it was too rich. So we tried Purina One because other dogs had done well on it and it was almost an immediate turn around. Firm poops!

Natural Balance Fish & Sweet Potato worked wonders for Sherri. I put down a newspaper under her to catch the poop
whenever we are away from home.

Iams Lamb & Rice = awesome dark firm poops - every time! And my pup has a very sensitive stomach and had the big D for months until I gave up on the higher quality food and settled for Iams. He's SO much happier and clean-up is a breeze. Best decision we ever made. Good Luck!

OMG lol.gif that is such a good idea! When my boys have the "runs" from antibiotics I just tried to hold a shopping bag under them. It was messy lol.gif

Sorry no advice on the food. I feed EVO and have no problems.

Lego had runny poo when he first came home, our placement rep told us to add a bit of canned pumpkin to his food. We've been doing it since and although his poo isn't as firm as most other dogs in the neighborhood, it's still firm enough to pick up.

Why did you choose to mix the bags?

I use pro plan salmon for my girls... but i thought about switching pulitzer to their lamb and rice formula. Gigi has a real sensitive stomach so the pro plan salmon worked wonders for her. I got pulitzer and she does fine on the salmon, she just poops so much and needs to gain weight!

Gigi still occasionally has diarrhea. Keep in mind, it could be treats or table scraps.

One thing you can do is feed the dog a raw chicken wing every couple of days. They eat it, bone and all, and it firms up the poop.

As someone already mentioned - Natural Balance. The limited ingredient diet foods work for my boy - I think he didn't tolerate grains well (or even oatmeal perhaps). I use Natural Balance Venison & Sweet potato kibble mixed with about 1/4 can of Natural Balance fish & sweet potato. However, very expensive food...

Once you have a food that works, check out the ingredients versus what you were using and see where the differences lie. Might be able to find what didn't quite agree with the pup...

I have found the best way to scoop up loose poops is to use a paper plate cut in half. Use it sort of like a broom and dustpan, scraping poup onto one half with other half.

I have a new grey and had a problem with the big d, I took him off pro -plan and put him on Kirkland, from Costco. I gave him a little pumpkin, yogurt and beet pulp mix about 10 minutes prior to each meal, (this really works) I only did this for about 2 weeks, he has been firm ever since.
beet pulp can be bought at any feed store or online.

Sam had loose poops (pick-up-able but not great) ever since we got him 4 years ago. Tried various foods, add-ins, etc. Finally after reading alot of comments here I tried Iams. Miracle of miracles!! He has wonderful firm poops now!!
