I just looked up the ingrediants to kirkland and wow looks like a premium food for such a good price. I currently use avaderm and the price keeps going up. So thinking about the switch but wanted to know who all out there uses or has used it and what they thought. The ingrediant list is very comprable to evo or avaderm.
Thanks Paul

Boon, Dillon, and Annie (my foster) do very well on the Chicken & Rice. Crystal didn't, but she's had problems with other foods, too. Our group also feeds the Lamb & Rice to our fosters and most do very well on it.

That's what we feed our dogs here, except for those meals that are comprised of raw foods.
I have found I need to add beet pulp to maintain good stool consistency; there's beet pulp already in there, but a little bit more bumps it up a notch, and firms things up.

We made the switch just a week ago. We had been feeding Canidae and the pups all did great on it, but when it went up to over $40 a bag (and we plow through a bag every two weeks) I had to start rethinking the food situation. The pups are all enjoying the Kirkland and doing well on it. And at $23 and change per 40# bag, it's hard to argue with. That and their gigumbus $17 dog beds. Anyway, with the difference between the Canidae and Kirkland, after three bags of kibble the Costco membership will have paid for itself.

Carl was on Kirkland Lamb and did well, I made the mistake of switching him to the Chicken and vegetable - ooooooo! Pudding poops and GAS, lots of GAS...I wish I could put it good use and put it in my gas tank - with as rank as it is, it must be good for something. Anyway, we'll be going back to the Lamb in about a week or two when I get low on the chicken.
Other than that his skin and coat are good and no bad breath.

I'm glad you said this... I've been considering it for awhile... I have 4 that are pretty bullet proof with food and 2 that are only solid on Nutro High Energy which I gave up looking for and the $$$ is outrageous. They are all now on Kirkland Lamb and Rice... I think I'll try adding some beet pulp for B&G

Kirkland Chicken, Rice & Veggies for everyone here. They love it. We have one boy who gets some beet pulb added in. He's just a bit nervous and everytime he's stressed we get poo puddles.

Ours are on the Kirkland Lamb Meal and Rice. Though since starting this last bag, Uber has decided he doesn't like it anymore. Anyone hear of a formula change or issue? The big boys are eating it with gusto.. which is also strange since it's usually Atlas who turns his nose up at his food.

It's a good food and 2 of my 3 do great on it. The other one, Diesel, doesn't, and gets horrible bloody D. It's hard finding foods that work for him, so the Kirkland is not the only one that causes the nasty D. He can't seem to handle chicken at all, but for some reason he can handle some lamb formulas, but not all. So, while he's fine on Canidae lamb, Kirkland lamb = big d.
but if it works well for your pups, go for it. It's a good food, and the price is unbeatable.
As for the beet pulp, you can get it in 50lb bags at the feed store, though our feed stores only seem to sell the pulp w/ molasses.

For beet pulp, try any feed-n-seed store that caters to folks with horses. Last time I bought it, a 50# sack ran $10.

We feed Kirkland to our crew. Everyone does well on it. Not sure how it compares to avaderm - never fed that or even looked at a bag of it before. I don't think you can beat the price-for-quality of Kirkland.
We get beet pulp from our local feed store. The major drawback is that you can't buy it in small quantities - I rarely use it (pretty much only w/track dogs at this point and we don't often have them here). Since we'll have a few here this weekend, I'll pick up a back. Fingers crossed that they have beet pulp w/o molasses when I go. I drop off any excess we have at the farm down the road.

I've just transitioned Winston and Piper to Kirkland Chicken & Rice with no problem at all. They like it and nobody has produced noxious gas! Piper has a history of have a couple of gassy weeks even if his regular food changes formula so this smooth, odor-free switch is good news for me.

Shanti did not do well on the chicken. I may try the lamb at some point when I get some other stuff under control with her. A lot of people that had pups not do well on chicken had better luck with the lamb. For a $20 savings per bag, I will try it soon!

Kirkland here. Chicken, Rice and Vegetable. My 2 greys do just fine on it. Why pay more? It received a 110+ rating in the dog food poll for ingredients. In the evening, I mix in for each dog 1/2 can of Green Tripe. Glossy coats and firm stools. No gas.

I switched my four dogs (at the time) to Kirkland because it was cheaper and still looked like a premium food. Maybe it is, but after three months of soft unformed poop by four big dogs, (UGH!!!) I went back to Canidae and I'm not looking back!!! LOL!! I'll pay the extra $$ for firm poop and no gas.

Just because a food doesn't work for some dogs doesn't mean it's not premium. I tried to feed my dogs Wellness brand food awhile back because the ingredients are so good. They all had major diarrhea on it so I took them off it. I still think that Wellness is a premium food, it just didn't work for my dogs.

I switched my girls from Cand to Kirkland lamb and rice a month and a half ago and no problems. This past week I have been switching them to Kirkland's Chicken and Veggie to see how they like that. So far so good, no soft serve Wendy's frosty poops or paint peeling gas. And they seem to like the chicken variety better then the lamb. Whatever makes my girls happy and doesn't upset their tummies works for me.

I switched my gang from Canidae to the Kirkland Chicken formula over 18 months ago. I did the gradual switch and no one had a problem. My boy, Keno, who always had a very sensitive tummy handled it without a problem.
I agree that not all foods (even the most expensive ones) agree with all dogs. Before feeding Canidae, I went through a lot of super premium foods to find one that Keno did well on. I was a little anxious about how he would do on the Kirkland, but it agreed with him.

I've fed Diamond Naturals senior (My understanding is that Kirkland and Diamond are the same food, sold in different places) to 5 hounds for about 5 years now with very good results. Some of them have firm stools and some have softer ones, but the ones who tend to go soft are even worse on other foods, including some very expensive ones. I like the quality ingredients and reasonable price of the Diamond food, and my dogs prefer it over most others we've tried.

Kirkland is made by Diamond, but they are most definitely not the same formula...
We were feeding Nutro Natural Chicken, Rice & Oatmeal. We tried the Kirkland Chicken, Rice and Veggies with our 3 girls. It didn't agree with any of them - lots of gas and soft poo. We gave it a fair shot too - went through at least 3 full bags before calling it quits. We didn't try the Lamb because we know that one of our grey girls can't handle lamb.
So... we switched to the Diamond Naturals Chicken & Rice. The Diamond has oatmeal, so it's closer to the Nutro formula. It also doesn't have the veggies that Kirkland does. Our 3 girls have been doing greyt on the Diamond.
No more Kirkland for us!

I recently switched my dogs to Kirkland also - just couldn't afford the RAW anymore. They're stool is definitely a bit loser but it was like rabbit turds when on RAW so it's kind of unfair to compare kibble to raw. They like the way it tastes - Sophie usually gives me the 'sigh and look' when I fill her bowl up with kibble, but both gobble it down with no complaints. I've even caught Hannah snacking on it when I'm not looking, she's never done this before! Going to have to invest in a tupperware container for the food now

Hannah still has some wiry fur and dandruff so I'm going to be adding fish oil to the mix, but they seem to like it and I like it also because it's so cheap! Only downside is the lack of an express 5 items or less line at Costco, but for the money savings I don't mind waiting a little bit (or a lot...) longer in line.

We switched a few months ago to Kirkland Chicken, Rice and Vegetables when we got a Costco membership. It's half the price of Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance and 5 pounds more. Natural Balance is a great food, used it for six years without any problems but the price had gone up to $43.50 for a 35 pound bag. Good luck with your switch

I've been feeding Kirkland for years. My doggies, both past and present, have loved it.
I have a girl that has pancreatic insufficiency, so food quality is essential for her. Even with meds, she can be very sensitive to different foods. She's thriving on Kirkland and can switch from lamb to chicken and back. It causes her no problems.
Just my experience. Your mileage may vary.

Our three have been on the Chicken and veggies and rice for over a year now without problems. We actually switched because Riley had pudding poops on other foods! Turns out that he cannot tolerate corn or wheat without getting horrible gas and sloppy poops. We even have to buy corn and wheat free treats for him. Makes all the difference in the world for him.

If you don't live somewhere near a feed store, you can use unsweetened/unflavored Metamucil (psyllium fiber) instead of beet pulp. Around here (very sandy soil), that's what many horse people use, too, to avoid sand colic (the psyllium gets nice and gummy and binds to any sand in the horse's gut, helping it pass through). Not a problem in dogs, but interesting bit of info.

I put the clothes pin on and opened the lamb, mixed it with the leftover Kirkland chicken kibble. Carl was one happy camper, though he always is at meal time. I watched the glass in the windows melt and felt my lungs wrinkling the rest of the evening.

The scary part was that he was in the bedroom and I was in the sun room - opposite ends of the house - and I could still smell it wafting throughout the house.
He's now outside happily nibbling on grass. No gas - yet - this morning.

We use the Kirkland Lamb & Rice for our 2-1/2 greyhounds (their Uncle comes in the office everyday along with our two so we mix up their lunches together) - and it works well for them. Ours started out on the Eukanuba but our Angel Vinnie did not care for it so we tried a couple of others before I tried the Kirkland - once we did this, we never used anything else. Their Uncle was on a premium brand but kept coming over to eat the Kirkland so his got totally changed as well.
We do mix Gus' and his Uncles with cooked meats - fresh cooked, cut-up chix, pork (each meal) & whatever else we have at hand that they may like (hamburger, chicken livers, cat fish). We also add in sugar snap peas every meal and either canned sweet potatoes (drained) or rice. Gracie eats the cooked meat with the add ins and eats the kibble dry thoughout the day as all 3 have a free feed kibble bowl to share. The other thing that we found that helps the soft stools is mini shredded wheat or honey nut cheerios - good fiber - and they look at it as special treats - especially the maple brown sugar mini wheats.

Leia has been eating the Lamb and Rice for 2 years or so. We started on the Canidae lam and rice but she got tired of that in 6 months and her poos were soft serve anyhow. I changed to Kirkland (moslty for the price) and have never looked back.. No gas, no soft serve (our greysitter said Leia has tootsie rolls). There was a study done where the Lamb and Rice was rated as high as the "premium" foods, (thats why I decided to try it over the Canidae),the chicken and rice didn't score as well. Unfortunaly I lost the report.
