I had a cat along with greyhounds, so it can work out real well as long as the grey is cat safe. Keep reading here and you will learn a lot.

Where are you located in FL?
One of the best things to do is seek out a local greyhound adoption group and visit with them next time they have a meet and greet or event. Some groups even have their own kennel facilities. Talk to the humans, and hang with the hounds, guarantee you'll learn a lot and will want to take all of the available hounds home with you

Lots of greys do just fine with cats, usually it's the cat that has to get used to them!

My poor Penny lives with 10-15 cats depending on which week it is (I rescue and adopt them out). You should be able to find a greyhound that fits perfectly into your home!
You will also see DD, DS, DW etc... dear daughter, dear son, dear wife.... I wonder if this is a greyhound-people thing. This is the only place I see or use them.. hmmm....
You will see other strange acronyms, too... like ETS. oh, and when you go to Cute & Funny, keep in mind that greyhounds do not spell very well

I think that your pre-adoption anxiety is a good sign that you will be a responsible pet owner. I researched and debated for over a year before finally taking the plunge.
Keep in touch and let us know how things go.
P.S. I work at the University Park Campus.
