Ty and Choo were outside playing and having fun.. they slowed down and Ty just stood for a few seconds.. he suddenly went a little weird.. he was hanging his head a little and his movement was choppy.. he also was lifting one paw off the ground, or when it was rested on the ground, it was knuckling. I immediately went to him and kept him still.. I noticed he was shaking as he just stood there and his back legs seemed a little weak but they didn't give out at all. After a couple of moments he seemed a little better so I brought him inside with me and went up the few stairs to my living room ok. He was still a little shaky once I got him inside, and again the front right paw was knuckling a little. We had him lay down and we checked him thoroughly for visible injuries or to see if we got any kind of pain reaction. Nothing. I had Dh grab a small treat and I got him to stand up and walk to me.. by this point there was no shaking or knuckling at all. I used the treat to check whether he was visually tracking.. that was also fine. I even waved my hands in front of his eyes to see if his blinking reflex was working, and that is also fine.

It has now been about a half hour and he seems completely normal. Now what?

Keep an eye on him but I'll bet he had a cramp (Charley horse).

I agree, he may have just turned the wrong way and pulled something, or turned his paw while he was running or just got a plain old cramp. I would just keep an eye on him the next time he is out and running around.

He might have also tweaked a nerve in his neck when they were playing. It could be so many things that pinning it down is very hard - TIA, mini stroke, light seizure, muscle cramp, stubbed toe, stepped on a sharp rock, Choo overly-enthusiastic bump. If he's OK now with no residuals it would just be something I would be on the lookout for in the future.

If you want to go the OCD route you can start a log with the details in case it should happen again. Keeping track of the incident(s) can be crucial in diagnosis.

Exactly what I was thinking ... TIA (mini stroke). This kind of sounds like Curfew's "episodes." His first was VERY bad.

I'd see the vet, and go from there. If they think they are mini strokes, I give Curfew 1/2 of an 81 mg aspirin with Pepcid AC daily, to keep his blood thin.

Sending many prayers! Dee and The Five
