A year ago today, we brought home our goofy girl. When we picked her out, she was the happiest, bounciest dog there. She jumped up and put a paw on each of my husband's shoulders, and the adoption rep warned us she'd be a handful. When I told DH she was the one, he just kept saying, "Are you sure you don't want an easier one?"
I'll never forget the feeling I had when we opened the door and brought her into the house -- when we saw her in relation to our kitchen table my husband and I both looked at each other like "Oh my god, what have we done? This dog is HUGE!"

When my panic subsided and she had explored around a bit, DH carried her upstairs so we could all go to bed. I was still getting over the worst case of the flu I think I'd ever had, and couldn't stop coughing. Lucy would roo mournfully for a while and then when she would finally quiet down and fall asleep, my coughing would wake her and she'd roo some more. I ended up sleeping downstairs on the couch those first few nights so as not to disturb her.
She's the most lovable dog I have ever met -- we call her our social butterfly because she befriends everyone she meets and
loves people. I love waking up to her pointy face staring at me from the edge of the mattress in the morning and I even love seeing her trot past me with my slipper in her mouth, her tail held high because she's so excited to have found a treasure. I'll never forget the time, just a few weeks after bringing her home, that she snuck into the bathroom while DH was showering and took not only his towel off the towel bar, but also his robe AND the bath mat and brought them all downstairs, one by one, as I watched.

: The first time she did zoomies in the back yard, I just stared in awe and still do whenever I see her run (though she tends to bounce rather than run, hence her extremely short career

) I loved seeing her personality grow and change as she got more comfortable here and can remember the first time I saw helicopter tail, play bow, woofles, ETS and a roach (it started with a quarter-roach, and I couldn't figure out why she was sleeping with one leg straight up in the air

).
She really is the best dog, ever. She's sweet, goofy, lovable, obedient, never begs for food, sleeps through nail trimming, loves walks, rarely barks, loves all dogs and people. I couldn't have asked for a better dog.
Happy gotcha day, my sweet girl!

I could never imagine life without you!
